Djenneを出て少し行った所にある小さな村にいい感じの泥モスクが見えたのでちょっと寄り道♪
マリでは何処行ってもだいたい家屋は泥レンガで出来ていて, 道路沿いでもよくレンガを造っている光景をみかけます。造ったものは主に家族や村で使われるそうで、子供達はお手伝いに精が出ます。泥練り作業の邪魔も程々に寄り道を終え次の目的地Moptiへ♪

On the road I saw a good sized mud mosque sticking out at a small village not too far from Djenne. I decided to walk by and chat with the villagers a bit.
The buildings are typically made out of mud bricks, especially in the country side. You see people making the bricks pretty often while you are on the road. Usually the bricks are used for making houses and other things needed in the village. Families, and children work very hard there.
Following my chat, I got back on the road heading to the next destination, Mopti♪

Bani川に浮かぶ島で町全体が泥で出来た要塞のようなDjennéは紀元前850年ごろボゾ人によって建てられ, アフリカはサハラ砂漠以南部で最も古い都市。遊牧民と定住民の橋渡しとなり, Timbuktuと共にサハラ交易とイスラム拡張の中心地として繁栄してきたそうです。今もなおこの地方で最もでかい市場が毎週月曜日、町の中心部にあるThe Grand Mosqueの前の広場で催されます。そのモスクは世界最大の泥のモスクでイスラムの影響を多大に受けたもののスーダン-サヘル様式で1907年に建てられた傑作。ちなみに最初のモスクは13世紀に建てられたそうです。
人と色と物でごったがいしている月曜市をうろちょろして喰らいつつ、モスクの中にもさくっと珍入♪ モスクの中は市場とは正反対の静けさのなか神聖なバイブス出しまくり。その後町探索へ, 細く入り込んだ路地は迷路みたい。川の土手に出たら月曜市に集結した人達が帰り支度の真っ最中。村まで果てしなく遠い人達もたくさんいるんだろうなあとか思いつつ自分も退散。翌朝モスクを見に行ったら昨日とはうってかわってがらんとした広場がモスクの前に。。。

Djenné is a very interesting town built entirely out of mud and looks like a huge fortress situated on an island in the Niger River delta. Founded in 850AD by Bozo people, it is one of sub-Saharan Africa's oldest cities. Djenne was a natural hub for traders who shuttled their goods between the Sahara desert and the forests of Guinea. Through the years Djenne also became a center of Islamic learning and its market square. The Great Mosque in Djenne is the largest mud brick or adobe building and one of the greatest achievements of the Sudano-Sahelian architectural style, with definite Islamic influences. It is just amazing.
There is a big market right in front of the Great Mosque every Monday. It was filled with color, full of people, and full of energy. I was almost overwhelmed by it all. I walked around the town going into the small streets. it is like a big maze. And I reached the river bank where many people who came to the Monday market were getting ready to go back to their villages. Some of them probably had a long way to go. It was an amazing site to witness. When I went to see the Grand Mosque again the next morning, the site looked completely different without the market in front of it. it was dead empty...

Fulani族は西アフリカ広域に住む遊牧民を起源にする人々で、西アフリカで最初にイスラム教に
改宗した事でも知られる。Fulaniの人々は遊牧生活から培ったリッチな文化と高い美意識をもち、おしゃれな事で有名♪ 入れ墨も数ある伝統の中の重要な要素の一つ, その中でも女性が唇と口の周りを黒く墨入れする"Tchoodi"はFulani独特の美♪ 結婚式の前に女性だけで催される儀式で熱された針に特性インクで墨入れされるが恥を避ける為静かに動かず耐えぬき, 式後3週間はストローで液体の物しか口にしないそうです。Fulaniの女性の勇ましさと美への追求が伺えます。
ネットでTchoodi儀式をとらえた映像みつけたのでチェキっ。
前にアップしたWoɗaaɓeの人々もフラニの少数グループです。

The Fulani people of West Africa are the largest nomadic tribe in the world. They were the first West African tribe to convert to Islam. The Fulani have a rich culture cultivated from the nomadic life, They are known for being very fashionable and for their extreme beauty. Beauty is very important to them.
One of the ways this is shown is through tattoos that are cover their body. Also, a characteristic Fula tradition is that of women tattooing around their mouth known as “Tchoodi”. Girls must perform Tchoodi to avoid the mockery of their peers. This tattooing is performed before their marriage ceremony takes place. Fully conscious, the young woman remains calm throughout the process. Their stoicism is a marker of their bravery. For three weeks they sip only liquid introduced into their swollen mouth through straw. Check out the video of the ceremony I find online.

Djennéの少し手前でBani川をフェリーで渡る所にさしかかってもうウキウキワクワク♪
何をするにも時間はゆっくり、とりあえず順番待ちで川岸でお茶もらったりして待機♪

I got so excited when we approached to Bani river right near Djenné♪
As I suspected, it is a very slow process crossing the river. To pass the time we just chatted with people, had some tea and waited around for your turn to get on the ferry or boat♪

もうそろそろ、春物アイテムも上がって来そうです！

飛行機が遅れまくって深夜過ぎに真っ暗なBamako Sénou国際空港に着陸。税関も微妙な感じでしたがなんとなく通過。宿に着くなり一緒に旅をしたAdama & Baileとリンク、その後はりきってパーティーへ珍入♪　意外にBamakoは欧米化した都会だなあとか思いつつパーティー満喫、珍しく二日酔いで起床。。暗くて気付かなかっただけで朝起きてみれば予想通りの街並みに喰らう。気持ち悪いままDjennéへ向けて出発。。。
途中Fanaという村で途中下車してマーケットをプラプラするもようやくMaliに来た実感が湧きまくる♪♪ 日が暮れ始めた頃Ségouに到着そこで一泊。宿の玄関脇を陣取ってお茶を立てていたおじさん達に西アフリカでの初お茶をごちそうになりました♪
翌日は早朝からDjennéへ向かい長～い道のり。

I landed in Bamako Sénou International Airport around midnight after a 4 hour flight delay. The airport was hardly lit up. Customs seemed to be very unorganized as I expected but I went through
with no problem. After I linked up with Adama and Baile whom I traveled with, I went out to a party not far from the motel where I stayed. I had a fun time and somehow I managed to get myself drunk.
I thought Bamako was much more westernized than what I expected, but that thought only lasted until
the next morning. I started my day with a hangover and drove through the city. I realized that Bamako
looked just like I expected it. We began the journey headed to the first destination, Djenné. We stopped by a market in the village of Fana. I walked around and it made me realize I was in Mali. Wow! I am in Mali!
We reached Ségou by the time sun went down and stayed there for the night. Old guys were gathered in
front of the hotel and making tea. They kindly offered me a shot of tea. I hadn't realized yet how important tea is to West African people. I woke up early the next morning and headed on a long ride to Djenne.
