BamakoとSenegalのDakerを繋ぐ鉄道があるんですが整備不備で何年も走っていないようですが途中Kayesまでは営業中との事。乗りたい！でBamakoからKatiまでの半日列車紀行を企んだんですが、朝発の列車は午後に変更してしまい無念にも断念。。。乗りたかった。。。
The train used to run from Bamako to Dakar, Senegal, but they only go to kayes from Bamako because of the condition of the track. However I was going to ride the train to Kati from Bamako for a half day trip on my last day in Mali, but the train got delayed and was switched it an afternoon departure. I really wanted to ride on it...

Sotaramaというミニバスに乗ってバマコのマーケットへ♪ここは人と物でごったがいしていて、熱気ムンムン歩いてるだけでくたくたです。。
I got on a mini bus (Sotarama) and crossed the town and went to the market♪
the place is huge, tons of people, tons of stuff, I was so overwhelmed.

Arche de Kamandjan
Kamandjanアーチを観にBamakoから３０分位行ったSibyに行ってきました。この岩はかなり見応えがあります。言い伝えによるとSibyの王が剣を使ってKamandjanに穴をあけたとか。途中薬草を摘んでいた地元の子供達に出会い、そのまま一緒にプラプラ探索♪
We went to see the arch Kamandjan in Siby about 30mins away from the center of Bamako. According to legend the arch of kamandjan was transpierced by the king of Siby with his sabre. It is a really cool site to look at. The local kids who were picking some medicine leaves joined us and we walked around together. It was a nice half day trip♪

Pteln
ちびっ子ギャングがみんな持っていたPtelnという手造り玩具。自転車の部品かと思われるメタルピース、タイヤのチューブ、気の棒そして釘一本を使って造ったファイヤークラッカー。マッチの火薬を詰めてそれを棒にゴムでつながれた釘で塞いで、地面に勢い良く叩き付けると、バンッ！って。それだけなんですが面白くてみんなでバンバンやってたらジェネバに怒鳴られました。かーちゃんをイライラさせるシットですね。
Pteln is a firecracker toy boys make out of a bicycle metal piece (I'm assuming), tire tube, wooden stick and a nail. You stuff the match powder, set the nail, smash it to the ground, then Bang!! I had some fun time with them doing it. Djeneba yelled at us then saw me doing it and laughed at me. I guess that is one of those things that can drive a mother crazy.

yirimadio sugu
yirimadioでの５日間、毎朝ジェネバが朝市に連れて行ってくれました。家から歩いて５～１０分位の地元市場ですが皆さんおしゃれして登場♪朝市はほとんど女性で賑わいます。ジェネバはまずご近所さん達とブースを構え揚げパンやサンドウィッチなどを売るので、その間横でつまみ食いしたりしながら待機。それが終わると夕飯の買い物に行くんで付いて行ったり、３日目位にはみんな僕の事見慣れたみたいで良い感じにいろんな人とチャットしたりと楽しかったです♪
I accompanied Adama's wife Djeneba every morning to the market. I learned that most of the women in Yirimadio have a morning routine of going there. It's a local market but they dress up nicely. She has a little booth with her neighbors selling fried dough and sandwiches. I just sat there and chilled with them til she finished, and thereafter she’d grocery shop for dinner. I followed her around like a kid at the market. By the 3rd day, people got used to seeing me there and I felt a little more comfortable. I was able to chat with more people. It was so much fun♪ Thanks Djeneba!!

Ba
バマコへ向かっている途中、道路脇でヤギの首を落としてる人を目撃、アダマにヤギ捌けるか聞いたら勿論出来るとの答えを頂いたので、急遽ヤギ一頭ゲット、車に積んでいざアダマの家へ♪ 一頭＄40位で安いと感じるかもしれませんが現地の人達には結構な買い物。5日間泊めさせてもらうんでしたが手ぶらでお邪魔するのもちょっとと思っていた時だったのでヤギはナイスアイデア♪
まずは首を切って楽にさせたら吊るして皮剥いで部分ごとに切ったりと。。見慣れてないと結構えぐいかもしれませんが、残す事無く頭からしっぽまでばっちり使います。お盆の上に小分けした物はご近所さん達にお裾分け♪ ここの人達はご近所さん達とすごく共存ないい感じのコミュニティー、なんか昭和な感じで懐かしく思えたりと気分良好♪ アダマの奥さんジェネバが毎日おいしくヤギ料理してくれて満喫満杯♪
On our way back to Bamako, I saw a guy chopping the head off of a goat by the side of the road. I asked Adama if he knew how to do that. He said, “of course!” I said, “good, let’s go get a goat and bring it to your family.” We picked up a goat from a guy selling them on the side of the road. It cost about $40, which doesn’t sound like a lot to us, but it is a pretty big purchase for the locals. It all worked out well. I didn’t want to show up empty handed and I got to experience preparing a live goat and tasty goat dishes. First, they cut the goat’s throat, killing it instantly. Then they peeled the skin and chopped the goat into parts. I know it looks pretty intense for us that are only used to seeing nicely packaged meat. They don’t waste anything. They use the goat from head to tail. Once the meat was nicely placed on a big plate, Adama sent his kids to their neighbors to share the meat. They’re a very close-knit community.
I have to give a big shout out to Adama’s wife, Djeneba, for all the amazing meals!!! They were too delicious!!!

yirimadio denbaya ni teri
BamakoのYirimadioという地区にあるアダマの家に最後の５日間泊めさせてもらいました。アダマ、奥さんのジェネバ、アダマの子供達そしてご近所さん達みんなのおかげで現地の一般家庭生活を体験させてもらい、すごく楽しい時間を過ごせました♪ またYirimadioへみんなに会いに行きたいです♪
I stayed at Adama's family in the area called Yirimadio in Bamako for the rest of my stay in Mali. Gratefully I got a chance to experience the local life. This experience really made my trip. It would not have happened without Adama, his wife, his kids and neighbors' great hospitality and friendship. I cannot wait to go back to Yirimadio and spend some time with them in the future.

Food in Mali & Burkina Faso
マリに行く前、現地では何を食べるのか凄く気になっていたんですが、かなり満喫してきました♪炭水化物な物ばっか食べてたのもあるんですが予想に反し結構太って帰ってきました。。主食は米、クスクス、トウモロコシにミレット(雑穀)でオニオンソース(Jabaji)やピーナッツバターソース(tigedegenaw)を掛けて食べます。これほとんど毎日でした。ヤギ、牛、チキンや魚があればソースに入れたりします。道路脇やマーケットにはよく肉屋をみかけます、ドラム缶の上でヤギ肉のグリル♪ホルモン系もありかなりおいしく、みかける度に食べてました。
朝食は揚げパンみたいなもの(Farini)、ミレットのパンケーキにエッグサンドをリプトン紅茶かネスカフェを飲みつつ食べてました。ちなみに手で食べる時は右手を使いましょう, 左手はだめですよ。
NYでもおいしい西アフリカ料理探しにいかないと♪ 写真は旅の間食べたものなんでチェケラッちょ。
Before I went to Mali, I was really curious about what I was going to eat there. The result – I really enjoyed the food and gained so much weight from all the carbs...
Rice, couscous, corn and millet are the grains used in most Malian meals. Rice is served with a sauce, usually onion sauce (Jabaji) or peanut butter sauce with vegetables and spices (tigedegenaw). Goat, beef, lamb, chicken and fish are added to the sauce or eaten separately when available.I really loved the grilled goat meat sold at the market and on the side of the road. It was so good! For breakfast I had fried dough (Farini), millet pancake or egg sandwich with Lipton tea or Nescafe. Nescafe has permeated throughout Mali. By the way when you eat with your hand, use your right hand.
I want to find some good West African food spots in NYC! The photos are the food I had during my trip.

パンクを修理してGaouaからBanforaという町へ日が暮れるちょっと前に到着。今まで観てきた
枯れ枯れな土地とはうって変わってこの辺りは緑が豊富で広大な砂糖キビ畑も広がっていました。観光名所も幾つかあるようでその中のKarfiguela滝や変わった岩石群Fabédougouドームをさくっとチェック。この町で一番楽しかったのは宿の人に借りたチャリでぷらぷらパトロール♪めちゃ満喫♪そういえば広島市の消防車が走ってました！
ブルキナ ファソとは早くもお別れと思ったら今度はエンジン系トラブルでピットイン。。。で修理完了まで市場をプラプラ。旅の終盤でようやくクーラーが効いてきて涼しい♪ 再び国境を越えてMaliへ、Sikasso経由で首都Bamakoへ戻ります。
After the tire was replaced, we left Gaoua and arrived to Banfora a little before sunset. There are many trees and bodies of water around Banfora. In rainy season, water accumulates in normally forest areas. It's also known for huge sugar cane plantations. I went to see Karfiguela waterfall and Fabédougou Domes. However, what I enjoyed most in this town was riding a bicycle around. Luckily the guy from the hotel let me borrow his while he was working. It totally made my day!! Oh, I saw a Japanese fire track on duty! So random.
We had some engine trouble with the car and brought it into a factory. I took a walk to the market while they were fixing it. My trip was almost over and we finally had cold air coming out from the AC. We got on the road heading back to Mali from Burkina Faso. The next stop is Sikasso.

バンバラ族の言い伝えを元にしたマリのSouleymane Cissé監督の名作Yeelen。時代設定は不明ですが、13世紀のマリ帝国時代ですかね。マジックやなんかかなり神秘的な感じですがドゴンでの体験を思い出してみたりするとリアル度倍増どころではない感じでロケ地 にも喰らいます。バンバラ語とフラニ語が使われています。(105分)
Yeelen is a 1987 Malian film directed by Souleymane Cissé. It is based on a legend told by the Bambara people. Though the era is undefined, it is presumably set in the 13th century in the Mali Empire and is a heroic quest narrative featuring magic and precognition. It is filmed in the Bambara and Fula languages. The filmed locations are outstanding. (105mins)

Gaoua
Bobo-Dioulassoを後Lobiの人々が住んでいる事で知られるGaouaという町へ。Maison Soukalaと呼ばれるロビの伝統的な家に住んでいる家族の所にお邪魔しました。ここのご主人は奥さん3人子供18人の大所帯。小さな入り口をくぐると中は暗く幾つもの部屋に別れていて結構広く、奥さん達は子供達と一緒に個々部屋があり他の奥さんの所には入る事が許されてないそうです。元々入り口は無く近年まではハシゴ掛けて屋上に登りそこにある小さな穴からご主人の許可した人だけ家の中に入れたそうです。奥さん達は自分の台所の壁に食料や大事な物を入れる壷を大量に積んでいます。その中に特別な壷が一つあるそうで旦那とどうしても縁を切りたい時にそれを割ると離婚が成立。。
その後、車のタイヤがパンクしたので修理している間ミレットビールごちそうになりつつ子供達と遊んだりとリラックスな昼下がり♪
We drove to Gaoua where the Lobi people settled. I went to visit a traditional Lobi house know as “maison soukala”. A man lived there with his 18 kids and 3 wives. There is a single vast mud banco wall and a small entrance. An entrance to a Lobi house is relatively recent development. Traditionally, there were ladders constructed from notched branches leading up to the roof where there was a hole for entry at the top. Only the chief of the household can give permission to enter. The rooms inside are very dark and spacious. Each wife has a section of the house for herself and her children. Canaris jars (large earthenware jars) are often stacked up against the kitchen walls. I was told that each wife has a special canaris jar that she would break if she decided to leave her husband, It would be considered a sign of divorce.
Our car got a flat and we spent some time drinking millet beer and hanging with kids while the tire was being fixed. A nice, chill time♪

Gaouaは1770年頃ガーナの北西からロビ族の人々が移り住んで出来たと言われていますが元々はガン族の人々が住んでいたそうです。Lobiとはロビの言葉で"森の子供達"という意味があるそうで、農夫, 牧夫, 猟師の前に彼らは戦士としての誇りを持っているそうです。ロビの人々は何世紀も昔Mouhoun川を東から西に渡ってきて以来、Mouhoun川を現世と死後の世界の境目の象徴とし、故人の霊は川を渡りご先祖様の所に戻って行くという言い伝えがあります。三途の川みたいなもんですかね？川は聖なるもので岸では彼らの精霊信仰の儀式が色々催されます。
According to local myth, Gaoua was founded when the Lobi migrated across from northern Ghana in 1770. Gan people were already living in Gaoua. The name Lobi originates from two Lobiri words: “lou”, meaning forest, and “bi”, meaning children. Translated literally it means, “Children of the forest”. They were farmers, hunters, herders but above all, they were warriors. The Mounhoun river is important in Lobi myth and symbolizes a dividing line between this world and the next. The Lobi crossed the Mounhoun centuries ago from east to west and settled in Gaoua bringing with them their deep animist beliefs and superstitions. According to Lobi legend the spriits of the deceased must return across the river to rejoin their honorable ancestors in the ancient world.

Burkina Fasoとはモシ語とジュラ語で”高貴なる人々の土地"。元々フランス領アフリカ共同体自治共和国オート ヴォルタでしたがクーデターの後国民の支持の下1983年にトーマス サンカラが33歳で大統領に就任, 翌84年にブルキナ ファソと改名、自ら国歌も作曲、国旗も新調し心機一転。アフリカのチェ ゲバラとも呼ばれる偉大な革命家サンカラは国民に厚い信頼を置かれ国内だけでなく多くのアフリカ諸国にとってもアフリカの真の独立への望みの星でしたが1987年志半ば、革命の同志だった現大統領ブレーズ コンパオレがフランスをバックに起こしたクーデターで暗殺されました。
貧困からの脱出には旧宗主国支配からの脱却と自給自足を目指し、社会的公平、腐敗政治の撤廃、人民の政治参加政権、農地の農民への再配分による大規模な農業生産の向上、大規模な予防接種の実施、医療機関を普及、アフリカ諸国で初めてHIV蔓延認知、教育改革、国民動員による大規模なインフラ整備、国家支出の削減, そして女性器切除(FGM)や一夫多妻制などの風習を禁止, 政府の中枢に女性を起用するなど女性の地位向上に努めるなど数々の斬新な政策を暗殺されるまでの４年間に進めてきました。
人間としての尊厳そして正しい経済政策のなか全アフリカの連帯と発展を描いたサンカラ。実際現地で革命を体験した人達に話を聞くと皆口を揃えてサンカラを讃え惜しんでいました。 サンカラがもしまだ生きていたらブルキナ ファソはそしてアフリカはもっと良い方へ変わっていたのかも。。。
In 1983, Thomas Sankara seized power of the country Upper Volta, a self-governing French colony. It was a popularly supported coup that resulted in Sankara becoming president at the age of 33. He immediately launched the most ambitious program for social and economic change ever attempted on the African continent. To symbolize this new autonomy and rebirth, he renamed the country to Burkina Faso which means “the land of upright people” in Moore and Dioula. He also created a new country flag and wrote the national anthem. Because of his revolutionary programs for African self-reliance that were defiant alternatives to the neo-liberal development strategies imposed by the West, he is often referred to as “Africa’s Che Guevara”.
His policies were oriented towards fighting corruption, reforestation, averting famine, and making education and health a real priority. Also his presidency allowed for women to serve important roles in the government. Improving women’s status was one of Sankara’s explicit goals and was unprecedented in West Africa. His government banned female circumcision, condemned polygamy, and promoted contraception what is very common practices in the region. The Burkinabe government was the first African government to claim that AIDS was a major threat for Africa.
Sankara was overthrown and assassinated in a coup d’etat led by the French-backed Blaise Compaore on October 15, 1987. I spoke to several locals who experienced the Sankara’s administrative reform. They all told me that he was a true hero and made many improvements in his four years as president. They felt he could have made Burkina Faso a much better nation if he was still alive.

とうとうDogonの村々ともお別れでドゴンの町Bankassに出て次なる目的地、隣国Burkina Faso第二の都市Bobo-Dioulasso目指してホコリまみれの約550km. Bobo-Dioulassoの手前で共に旅をしたAdamaの家族が住んでいる集落へ寄り道, 残念ながらお母さんは畑へ出ていたらしく不在でしたが久々の帰郷にみんな喜んでました。よかったよかった♪
I finished my stay in the Dogon villages at last... We drove down to a Dogon town, Bankass, that morning and started heading to the next destination which was Bobo-Dioulasso. It is the second largest city of the neighboring country Burkina Faso. We drove over 340 miles on a dusty dirt road that day. We stopped and visited with my buddy Adama's family in a small village right outside Bobo-Dioulasso. Unfortunately, his mother was at the firm working but they were all happy to see Adama♪

Dogon Villages
この日はずっと徒歩でBagourou村からEndé、Téli、Kani Komboléへと歩いてみました♪ そのままKani Komboléで一泊、夕食の後灯りが見えたので行ってみると焚き火を囲んで子供達がコーランの勉強をしていました。この夜もピースな感じで就寝♪
That day, I walked from Bagourou to Endé to Téli and ended up in Kani Kombolé where I spent the night. After the dinner, I followed the glow of a burning fire where I found kids studying the Qur'an. A very peaceful night.

Dogon Villages
Tireli村を後にBegnimato村へ向けて出発するものの、気付けば道に迷いというか道なんてあるようでない感じなんですが幾つか小さな村を通過してようやくBengnimatoのふもとへ到着。そこから崖の頂上にあるBengnimatoへ徒歩々々登ると村が登場♪ここは眺めが半端ないです。この村ではモスクは見かけませんでしたが教会がありました。灯りらしい灯りはこの村にも無く、見えるのは教会のドアから漏れた一筋のランプ光と空一面の星ぐらいしかなく教会からは子供達の歌声と太鼓の音が響くこんな夜もまたいとおかし♪
We left Tireli heading to the next destination, Bengnimato. We were kind of lost on the road and passed through several small villages finally reaching the bottom of the cliff near Bengnimto. We hiked up to the top of the cliff which is where the village of Begnimato is located. The houses appeared as soon as you reached to the top of the cliff. The view was amazing. I didn't see a mosque but there was a church in the village. The village, like most others, has little if no light. Children were singing to beat of drums in the church. The only light we saw was a streak of light coming from the church. It shined bright amongst a black canvas sky full of stars. It made for a very peaceful night.

Dogon Greeting
ドゴンの人々の挨拶は一言では終わりません。言葉のキャッチボール。 知り合いでも他人でも道端で人に会う度に何度でもこの長い挨拶をします。家族、家畜、家、仕事などその時の気分で色々訪ねます。村や地域によって多少違いはありますが奥さんや子供に親の事を訪ねれば間違いなし。挨拶されたらとりあえずわかんなくても"セオウ(元気)"って答えれば大丈夫。この挨拶作法をマスターすればかなりの好感度アップ間違いなし♪ ネットでビデオみつけたんでチェケラッチョ。
Greetings are very important in the Dogon, just as they are throughout Mali. Even if you see each other several times a day, you will greet one another each time. Such a greeting may take a while and will even continue as the greeters pass each other by. They ask about the family, animals, home, work, etc., but it really depends on the mood. You cannot go wrong if you ask about the person's wife, children or parents. Even if you don't understand the people when they greet you, a friendly “sé-ouw(fine)” is a good enough answer. It would definitely make a great impression on Dogon people if you master it.

バンディアガラの崖には14~15世紀頃移り住んできたドゴンの人々の遥か前の11世紀頃にはテレムが移り住んでいて、ドゴンが来てからも２００年位は共存していたそうです。その後はブルキナファソの方に移って行ったなどの説はありますがはっきりとはわかっていないみたいです。どうやって登ったのか知りませんがテレムは崖の中腹の洞穴等に家を建てたらしくそれらは今でも残っていてドゴンは亡くなった人をロープで吊ってその穴に運び上げ葬ります。崖の下の方にあるテレムや古いドゴンの家にはロープを使わずに登れる所もあるので軽く探索してみたり♪

The Tellem are people reached the Bandiagara escarpment by the 11th century before Dogon reached the cliffs by the 14~15th century and thus shared with the Tellem the same territory for some two hundred years.The word The Tellem built their houses (Pegue Toulou) in and amongst the caves halfway up the cliff wall and the Dogon still use them as burial places, often hauling bodies up on the end of ropes. Only those young men of the village, who have special permission and skills in climbing are allowed to climb up to these houses. At the base of the cliff there are also some Tellem houses and very old Dogon settlements. These can easily be reached on foot by visitors.

Dogon Mask Dance
Tireli村でDogonの仮面舞踊を観てきました♪ 生はかなり喰らいます。古代から引き継がれているドゴンの仮面舞踊には、過ちを償い世代の更新象徴するドゴンで最も重要とされる儀式シギが６０年に一度催されるのと、そして死者の魂を体から引き離しドゴンの人々を守る先祖となるべく葬送の儀式ダマの２種類があります。家父長制で構成されているドゴンの社会では仮面の扱いや儀式はアワと呼ばれる男性陣によって行われます。仮面はSuigideとKanagaなど特別な仮面のほか動物や女性など７０種類以上もあるそうです。近年ではタイミングさえあえば披露してもらえます。Baileの実家の村だったのでアレンジしてもらえてラッキー♪ 次のシギは2027年なので興味のある方は是非旅のプランを。ビゴップ Baile & Tireli村!
I had a great opportunity to witness a Dogon Mask Dance at the village of Tireli. The masks serve to connect the Dogon people to the world of heaven where the afterworld exists, and Earth, which provides food, shelter and life. The Dogon are a patriarchal society and traditionally the Dogon masks are controlled and cared for by a group of male known as “Awa”. The dancers bring the mask to life in ancient ritualistic ceremonies such as the “Dama”, a funerary celebration that honors and commemorates the dead as they enter the ancestral realm at the end of the the funeral ceremony Yimu Gono. Another is the Sigui, a ceremony of initiation and atonement and the Dogon's most culturally significant cerebration that takes place only one time every 60 years. the next one will start in 2027. However they are organized the dance for the tourists nowadays, as sort of extra income for the community. Since Tireli is Baile's home, He arranged to have a dance for me. What If....
ノンモは、上半身は人、下半身は蛇、手に関節が無く、舌は二股に分かれている姿をしているというドゴンに伝わる神(精霊)で遠い昔に地上を訪れ, シリウスBなどシリウス連星や太陽系などについて高度な天文学をドゴンの人々に教えたと言い伝えられています。ノンモの故郷はニャン・トロと呼ばれるもう一つのシリウス連星シリウスC(エンメヤ) の周りを回る惑星ですが、現代の天文学では確認されていないそうです。古代エジプト文明やシュメール文明それからドゴンの文化には類似点が多くみられることから何かしらの接点があるのではとも言われています。その一つにシュメール双頭神オアネスとノンモが似ている事や、 エジプト文明では女神イシスをシリウス, オシリスをシリウスBとシンボル化したのではと言われています。。やっぱり遠い昔にシルウス連星系から宇宙人が来てたのかな?! どう思います？？

The Dogon are believed to be of Egyptian decent by many people. Their astronomical lore goes back thousands of years to 3200 BC. According to their ancient traditions, the star Sirius has a companion star, Sirus B (Po Tolo), which is invisible to the human eye. This companion star has a 50 year elliptical orbit around the visible Sirius and is extremely heavy. It also rotates on its axis. Did they really have extraordinary astronomical knowledge or misinterpreted or a just another strange coincidence? What do you think?

屋根はミレットを分厚く重ね天井は凄く低い独特の建て構えのTógu nà はDogonのどの村にも必ずある大事な建物。女性や子供がはいる事は許されず、村の大事な話し合いや決めごとは全てここで行われます。とは言っても普段はおじさん達のたまり場スポット。ここでコーラナッツが活躍します♪
Tógu nà is a very important building for Dogon. It has really low ceiling with the really thick roof which is made by piles of millet stalks. Tógu nà is a place to discuss affairs and take important decisions about the village and only men can enter inside. You'll see elder men chilling there in every villages you visit in Dogon.

Hogon
Songoを去りBandiagaraで昼食とって水やガスなど軽く買い出ししてからDogonの奥地へ突入、その日の目的地はBandiagara断崖の上に位置するSangha。着いたのが日が暮れ出した頃なのでさくっと村を散歩。鍛冶師や猟師の家族の所をお邪魔したあと、村の最長老(Hogon)の所へ案内され、勿体無くも歓迎のお言葉を頂戴しました。
HoganはDogonで最も重要な人物で伝統的なスピリチュアルリーダー。村の長老達の中から選ばれたHogonは生涯禁欲でOgol Daという特別な家に独りで住み、人はHogonに絶対に触れてはだめ、Hogonは自分で体を拭ってもだめなど色々タブーとされる事があります。
Dogonが信仰する精霊の一つ、地の神Lébé (Lewe)が蛇の姿をして夜Hogonの所を訪れ体を清め知恵を与えるという言い伝えがあります。
After our visit to Songo, we stopped by Bandiagara to pick up some food, water and gas. We traveled on a dirt road to that day's destination, Sangha village in the heart of Dogon Country. We reached the village right before the sun went down. I quickly walked around the village. I stopped by a blacksmith and a hunter's house as well as Hogon, the chief of the village, and Dogon's highest traditional spiritual reader. I felt honored to be greeted so respectably. After having been chosen from the village elders, the chief lives alone at Ogol Da. There are many taboo's and customs among Hogon. One of them dictates that the chief should be celibate for the rest of his life. He should not be touched by people not even by his own wife and children, except for his own selected people. He should also not wash himself, etc...
The Dogon people believe the sacred snake Lébé, The earth god, one of the three main divine beings exist in the Dogon religion visit Hogon at night to clean him and leave him wisdoms as one of their legend.

コーラという植物の実コーラナッツ(wòro)は西アフリカでは年輩の方々に好まれ、部族によっては儀式に使われたり長老やお客さんに差し出される事もあるそうです。カフェインが含まれるこの実、噛むとめちゃくちゃ苦いんですが、一時的に空腹感を減らすなどの効果もあるそうです。
行く村々でお年寄りに出会った時ご挨拶がてら差し出すと好感度アップ♪
Kola Nut (wòro) is the nut of the kola tree which is a very bitter tasting, caffeine-containing nut.
The nuts could ease hunger pangs temporarily. The nut is popular in West African cultures. It is often
used ceremonially, presented to tribal chiefs or presented to guests.
If you’re visiting Dogon Villages, it would be a good idea to carry some kola nuts with you. Offer them
as a sign of respect to the village elders♪

Kondi Pegue
Moptiを離れ次の目的地Dogon Countryへ♪
標高差は500m、幅150kmに及ぶBandiagara断崖に住むDogonの人々。Dogonは他民族による侵攻、奴隷狩り追っ手などから逃れるため徐々に断崖絶壁へと移り住み、過酷な自然環境を盾に近年まで外部との接触も少なく, 神話信仰など独自の文化を長い間維持してきました。Dogonの起源は謎な事が多く神話ベースの独特の宇宙観、社会形態、風習、儀式などとにかくぶっ飛んでいます。
まずはSongoという村へ。この村は男子の割礼儀式をする岩場Kondi Pegueがある事で知られています。儀式は３年に一度９～１２歳位の男子に行われ、岩に描かれた絵は毎回儀式の度に上から描きかえられ、儀式の間Wandyermaという特別な楽器が使われます。

We left Mopti heading to the next destination, Dogon Country♪
Dogon are an ancient African people live by the Bandiagara Escarpment, a sandstone cliff of up to 1,640 ft high, stretching about 100 miles. Over the time (15~19 century) they moved north along the escarpment to avoid the war and slave raids by hostile people. Because of its inaccessibility, Dogon was never under full control of outsiders. They were able to keep their tradition and ritual for the centuries.
They have very unique and rich deeply sacred tradition, ritual, and life style that is based on their myth. The myth is that many scholors claim their culture shows their advanced astronomy knowledge. It is a one of the biggest mystery of Dogon people today. They are very fascinating people.
My first stop in Dogon was Songo village. It is known for a circumcision ritual site with numerous rock paintings called Kondi Pegue. Every three years boys age of 9~12 years old are circumcised at the site. The rock paintings are made during the circumcision ritual. The sacred instrument Wandyerm are used during the ceremony.

2008年に電車への落書きが全国で相次いだ事件で、スロバキア国籍のダリボラ スピシアクとハンガリー国籍のタカチ ビクターの両被告が器物損壊罪などで大阪で起訴され国際電車落書き団とかいってニュースになっていたの覚えている人いるんじゃないでしょうか。 そいつらがその後どうなったかは知りませんが、しっかり日本での作戦はビデオ "Show Must Go On pt.3"(71分)でみれちゃいます。ビデオには５人写っている場面あるんで3人は無事国外脱出かな？
2 foreign nationals got busted for painting on trains in Osaka, Japan in 2008. They were introduced as a part of the international train graffiti group on Japanese news. I don't know if they are in Japanese prison or got deported, but It seems like 5 of them were in the tour as seen on a segment of "Show Must Go On pt.3"(71mins). 2 down but the show goes on. lol

Djenneを出て少し行った所にある小さな村にいい感じの泥モスクが見えたのでちょっと寄り道♪
マリでは何処行ってもだいたい家屋は泥レンガで出来ていて, 道路沿いでもよくレンガを造っている光景をみかけます。造ったものは主に家族や村で使われるそうで、子供達はお手伝いに精が出ます。泥練り作業の邪魔も程々に寄り道を終え次の目的地Moptiへ♪
On the road I saw a good sized mud mosque sticking out at a small village not too far from Djenne. I decided to walk by and chat with the villagers a bit.
The buildings are typically made out of mud bricks, especially in the country side. You see people making the bricks pretty often while you are on the road. Usually the bricks are used for making houses and other things needed in the village. Families, and children work very hard there.

Bani川に浮かぶ島で町全体が泥で出来た要塞のようなDjennéは紀元前850年ごろボゾ人によって建てられ, アフリカはサハラ砂漠以南部で最も古い都市。遊牧民と定住民の橋渡しとなり, Timbuktuと共にサハラ交易とイスラム拡張の中心地として繁栄してきたそうです。今もなおこの地方で最もでかい市場が毎週月曜日、町の中心部にあるThe Grand Mosqueの前の広場で催されます。そのモスクは世界最大の泥のモスクでイスラムの影響を多大に受けたもののスーダン-サヘル様式で1907年に建てられた傑作。ちなみに最初のモスクは13世紀に建てられたそうです。
人と色と物でごったがいしている月曜市をうろちょろして喰らいつつ、モスクの中にもさくっと珍入♪ モスクの中は市場とは正反対の静けさのなか神聖なバイブス出しまくり。その後町探索へ, 細く入り込んだ路地は迷路みたい。川の土手に出たら月曜市に集結した人達が帰り支度の真っ最中。村まで果てしなく遠い人達もたくさんいるんだろうなあとか思いつつ自分も退散。翌朝モスクを見に行ったら昨日とはうってかわってがらんとした広場がモスクの前に。。。
Djenné is a very interesting town built entirely out of mud and looks like a huge fortress situated on an island in the Niger River delta. Founded in 850AD by Bozo people, it is one of sub-Saharan Africa's oldest cities. Djenne was a natural hub for traders who shuttled their goods between the Sahara desert and the forests of Guinea. Through the years Djenne also became a center of Islamic learning and its market square. The Great Mosque in Djenne is the largest mud brick or adobe building and one of the greatest achievements of the Sudano-Sahelian architectural style, with definite Islamic influences. It is just amazing.
There is a big market right in front of the Great Mosque every Monday. It was filled with color, full of people, and full of energy. I was almost overwhelmed by it all. I walked around the town going into the small streets. it is like a big maze. And I reached the river bank where many people who came to the Monday market were getting ready to go back to their villages. Some of them probably had a long way to go. It was an amazing site to witness. When I went to see the Grand Mosque again the next morning, the site looked completely different without the market in front of it. it was dead empty...

Fulani族は西アフリカ広域に住む遊牧民を起源にする人々で、西アフリカで最初にイスラム教に
改宗した事でも知られる。Fulaniの人々は遊牧生活から培ったリッチな文化と高い美意識をもち、おしゃれな事で有名♪ 入れ墨も数ある伝統の中の重要な要素の一つ, その中でも女性が唇と口の周りを黒く墨入れする"Tchoodi"はFulani独特の美♪ 結婚式の前に女性だけで催される儀式で熱された針に特性インクで墨入れされるが恥を避ける為静かに動かず耐えぬき, 式後3週間はストローで液体の物しか口にしないそうです。Fulaniの女性の勇ましさと美への追求が伺えます。
ネットでTchoodi儀式をとらえた映像みつけたのでチェキっ。

The Fulani people of West Africa are the largest nomadic tribe in the world. They were the first West African tribe to convert to Islam. The Fulani have a rich culture cultivated from the nomadic life, They are known for being very fashionable and for their extreme beauty. Beauty is very important to them.
One of the ways this is shown is through tattoos that are cover their body. Also, a characteristic Fula tradition is that of women tattooing around their mouth known as “Tchoodi”. Girls must perform Tchoodi to avoid the mockery of their peers. This tattooing is performed before their marriage ceremony takes place. Fully conscious, the young woman remains calm throughout the process. Their stoicism is a marker of their bravery. For three weeks they sip only liquid introduced into their swollen mouth through straw. Check out the video of the ceremony I find online.

Road to Djenné
飛行機が遅れまくって深夜過ぎに真っ暗なBamako Sénou国際空港に着陸。税関も微妙な感じでしたがなんとなく通過。宿に着くなり一緒に旅をしたAdama & Baileとリンク、その後はりきってパーティーへ珍入♪ 意外にBamakoは欧米化した都会だなあとか思いつつパーティー満喫、珍しく二日酔いで起床。。暗くて気付かなかっただけで朝起きてみれば予想通りの街並みに喰らう。気持ち悪いままDjennéへ向けて出発。。。
途中Fanaという村で途中下車してマーケットをプラプラするもようやくMaliに来た実感が湧きまくる♪♪ 日が暮れ始めた頃Ségouに到着そこで一泊。宿の玄関脇を陣取ってお茶を立てていたおじさん達に西アフリカでの初お茶をごちそうになりました♪
翌日は早朝からDjennéへ向かい長～い道のり。
I landed in Bamako Sénou International Airport around midnight after a 4 hour flight delay. The airport was hardly lit up. Customs seemed to be very unorganized as I expected but I went through
with no problem. After I linked up with Adama and Baile whom I traveled with, I went out to a party not far from the motel where I stayed. I had a fun time and somehow I managed to get myself drunk.
I thought Bamako was much more westernized than what I expected, but that thought only lasted until
the next morning. I started my day with a hangover and drove through the city. I realized that Bamako
looked just like I expected it. We began the journey headed to the first destination, Djenné. We stopped by a market in the village of Fana. I walked around and it made me realize I was in Mali. Wow! I am in Mali!
We reached Ségou by the time sun went down and stayed there for the night. Old guys were gathered in
front of the hotel and making tea. They kindly offered me a shot of tea. I hadn't realized yet how important tea is to West African people. I woke up early the next morning and headed on a long ride to Djenne.

Mali & Burkina Faso
この間念願の西アフリカにあるマリとブルキナファソへ行ってきました♪
最初から最後まで喰らいまくりの珍道中でBamakoからSégou, Djenné, Mopti, Dogon Country, Bobo Diolusso, Gaoua, Banfora, Sikassoなど約3,000km位をロードトリップ♪

I was finally able to visit Mali and Burkina Faso in West Africa this past December. The experience will forever be embedded in my memory. It was an amazing time. I took a road trip from Bamako to Ségou, Djenné, Mopti, Dogon Country, Bobo-Diolusso, Gaoua, Banfora, Sikasso and came back to Bamako. The journey covered over 1900 miles. I will post a bunch of pictures in my photo diary, stay tuned♪

I Love Trains
Here is the another hardcore German Train Writing documentary film "I Love Trains". They are finally releasing it after 3years of silence. It comes with 2 DVDs. Main focus of the first film is on Germany subway systems in Berlin, Hamburg, Nuremberg and Munich, also there are Rostock and Stuttgart's public transport. In the second DVD show more subway systems of major European cities and NYC. How about some hardcore?! Yeh, We like it raw on the trains!

Unlike U
UNLIKE U is a documentary about train writing in Berlin♪ This film looks so sick!!! It's the real deal! You can stream the whole movie on their site ♪
However the moviemakers and producers are recently fighting legally for the ongoing distribution of UNLIKE U. The Berlin transport company Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) has sued them in order to refrain them from distributing the movie regarding the places the action documented in UNLIKE U took place in. Therefore they opened a donation account for legal fees and for the preservation of UNLIKE U for you to support.

Nightstalker II Night Vision System
US military has the Combat Camera units photograph operation on the ground, at sea and in air even in battle. Tactical Solutions' Nightstalker II night vision lens attached to a USN Combat Camera’s standard-issue Nikon D700. It's used by some US military photographers to take night action shots. Using this kind of camera lens is very difficult since you have to focus manually and setting the exposure is tricky.

The USS Carl Vinson played host to a Michigan State vs. UNC basketball game for veteran's day. it was the first college hoops game on an active flat top.
Both schools were dressed in camouflage uniforms, The Army Combat Uniform (ACU) pattern, which Nike obtained special permission from the U.S. military to use.

F-2 Viper Zero
三菱重工業は9月２７日、２０００年以降に予定した航空自衛隊F-２戦闘機計98機(F-2A×62機、F-2B×32機、試作機４機）を完納し戦闘機の国内生産がすべて終了、最終号機の完納式が三菱重工小牧南工場で催されました。
貿易摩擦解消の一環でF-16をベースに共同開発することを米国に呑まされつつも飛行性能向上や対艦ミサイル運用の為に垂直尾翼以外は全て三菱重工によって再設計したF-2、莫大な開発費も日本が負担させられ、炭素繊維強化複合材の技術なども持っていかれ、振り回され続けた結果単価の高い高級機となってしまい文句言われまくり、結果145機生産予定が98機。更に宮城県の松島基地配備の１８機は東日本大震災の津波で水没する被害受け修復可能な機体は残念ながら6機程度。。開発からずっと不運続きなF-2です。。
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries delivered the last multirole fighter F-２ to the Ministry of Defense on 9/27 and ended the production. The production started in 1996 and the first aircraft entered service in 2000. A total of 98 (F-2A x32, F-2B x32 and 4 proto types) have been built.
F-2 was based on the General Dynamics (post 1993, Lockheed Martin) F-16. Japan was convinced to have a joint development with the US in part to help ease trade friction. The F-2 used the wing design of the F-16 but Mitsubishi Heavy Industries redesigned the rest. Even though the US took Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Carbon Fiber Composite material, Japan was responsible for most of the developing costs. It ended up costing way more than they planned and it resulted in a reduced number of the production from 118 to 98.
18 F-2s based at the Matsushima Airbase in Miyagi Prefecture were damaged by the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. Out of these 18, 12 were deemed beyond repair and will be scrapped. The other 6 will be repaired. The F-2 has a sad history from the beginning because of political tensions between the U.S. and Japan in the early 1990s...

Deployment of the next generation experimental fighter (FX) has been scheduled for 2016, but the government has been delaying the model's selection. They are planning to select either the F-35, F/A-18 and Eurofighter by end of this year.. They probably will get ripped off again...
It has been increasing the number of Neighboring countries' overflights and waters infringements in Japanese territory. They are getting more aggressive with the territorial issues, such as Takeshima and Senkaku Islands Territories disputes. China has been working hard on military expansion and modernization. It seems like Russia is expanding the military power as well. Korea has been using the Japanese media to try and spread a fake movement favoring Korea. And our rotten administrations isn’t helping the situations at all... Japan needs to have greater protection of our self defense force to avoid potentially big threats. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that we should prepare for fighting. I wish to have good relations with the neighboring countries, however, we should have enough defense power for any possible emergencies we may have to face.

They lost the Falcon HTV-2 again... This time they lost telemetry contact never to get it back again 36 minutes after launch... Where did it go?? melted?? ? ? well they spent $308million for this program so far...

Falcon HTV-2 launches today
DARPA's Falcon HTV-2 hypersonic unmanned aircraft is scheduled to launch into space, as part of a critical test flight from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California today. It maxes out at a speed of about 16,700 miles per hour (Mach 22), theoretically allowing it to jet from NY to LA in just 12 minutes and to reach anywhere in the world in less than an hour to attack. It could be loaded with a maximum 1000 lbs of missiles as well. It vanished on its first flight test after it flew for 9 minutes last april, Let's see how it will go this time.

Japan Tsunami Broke Off Icebergs in Antarctica
The tsunami that struck Japan on March 11 propagated waves that hit an ice shelf in Antarctica 8,100 miles away, smashing parts of it into huge icebergs. In total, the tsunami liberated about 48 square miles of icebergs from a region that had remained essentially unchanged for close to half a century. The largest berg measured about 5.9 miles by 4 miles, making it slightly bigger in surface area than Manhattan, and had a likely depth of about 260 feet.
東北地方太平洋沖地震の影響で13,000km離れた南極大陸の半世紀以上も変化の無かった77平方キロメートルにも及ぶ棚氷を巨大氷山に分裂していたのが 確認されたそうです。大きい物では 縦9.5km, 横6.5km、高さ80mとニューヨークのマンハッタンよりもでかいらしいです。

Shikoku is known for Udon noodle and I got a good start♪ I had Kamatama Udon for lunch at a local udon noodle spot called "Tamura" before I left Naruto. That was so good!!
鳴門を去る前に手打ちうどん"たむら"で釜玉うどん昼食♪民家の裏にあるかなりローカル色濃い建構え。値段も半端無く安く。。ねぎ・しょうが・大根おろし、さらに生たまごを乗せた釜玉うどん、和風カルボナーラとでも言うんでしょうか、初めて頂いたんですがかなり美味しかったです！

Dutch Military is getting a new camo pattern for the part of their Soldier Modernization Program (VOSS in Dutch, for the English Improved Operational Soldier System) by 2014. I guess no more DPM camo for Dutch.

On my last trip to Japan, traveling the Kan-etsu highway from Fukui to Tokyo, we stopped at Yokokawa Service Area. That location is home of Oginoya's Kamameshi Bento. I had it about 15years ago. It was as tasty as it was when I had it years ago. They have half of the train flipped to an eating space. It is a fun idea, but I would just put a whole train and let those old ladies sell the kamameshi through the train windows like they used to sell back in 50's.
前回の帰郷時、福井からの帰りは車だったので横川サービスエリアで休憩して１５年ぶり位でおぎのやの峠の釜飯を食てみました。味は変わらず記憶通り。電車型のテーブル席がなかなかいい感じ、でもどうせならまるまる一車両そのまま使って当時の様におばちゃん達が窓から売れば良いのにとか思いつつ完食♪

Lego DSV Shinkai 6500
Lego teamed up with Cuusoo to make a set of JAMSTEC (Japanese Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology)'s DSV Shinkai 6500 which is a manned research submersible that can dive up to a depth of 21,325ft. Their next set will be the the JAEA(Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency)'s unmanned spacecraft Hayabusa!
Lego x Cuusooで日本の誇る目標性能6,500mの大深度有人潜水調査船しんかい6500のセットがちょっと前に登場したんですが、ようやく組み立てました♪ シリーズ第二弾は小惑星探査機はやぶさのセットらしいので楽しみです。

lobster joint
I went to get some lobsters at Lobster Joint in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We ordered several different dishes and they were all tasty. We also got Lobster Macaroni & Cheese, I was not sure how it tastes, But it was really tasty, actually it tastes more like Gratin than Macaroni&Cheese. Good food, Good service, I want to go back there soon~♪
ブルックリンはグリーンポイントにあるロブスターバーLobster Joint。色々頼んでみたんですがどれも美味♪ ロブスター マカロニ＆チーズどんなのだろう興味津々で頼んだらマカロニ＆チーズというよりかはグラタンな感じで美味しかったです♪ 店員さんも親切だったしまた近いうち食べにいきたいです。

Nebraska Nuclear Plants
Low-level emergency declared at the Fort Calhoun nuclear power station in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. It is currently shut down for refueling and is surrounded by flood waters from the Missouri River, Tuesday, June 14, 2011. As if the flooding isn’t enough, they had an electrical fire, and shut down the spent fuel pond pumps to aid in fighting it. Based on the images shown, the plant doesn’t look secured at all...
昨日ミズーリ川の洪水でネブラスカ州にあるFort Calhoun原発(今年のはじめから整備等で停止している様ですが...) 水に囲まれちゃって低レベルエマージェンシーだって。。なんか写真みると全然無防備な気が、、、しかも電気系統の火災など洪水の前から色々事故は発生しているみたいです。。ほらね、人ごとじゃないでしょアメリカも。。

この間のメモリアルウィークエンドにマイアミサウスビーチで警官12人余りが昨年10月に起きたガソリンスタンド武装強盗の容疑で不審者の車を取り囲み一斉発砲で射殺。。。抵抗もしてないしあんなに撃ち込む必要あるのか？射殺する必要性なんてなおさら無さそうだけど。。。公開処刑マイアミ警察スタイル。。。でそのビデオ撮っていた目撃者に気付いた警官は銃突きつけて一時拘束し、撮影していた携帯を踏みつけ破損させ没収だって。。でもSIMカードをすかさず抜いて口に隠した目撃者ナイスな判断。しっかし何処いっても豚は臭いね。。

I went to Fukui to see my beloved aunt for the first time since I was in elementary school. She is almost 90 years old. I was so happy to see her doing well. I also visited my other ancestors as well. It felt weird, in my vague memory, It seemed like nothing had changed, yet almost everything changed; and to them I was the one who changed the most. I felt the absence of time as it if stood still but everything evolved around me.
この間の帰郷は久々な事だらけだったんですが、小学校の時に行った以来の福井へ叔母を訪ねてしたきました♪ もう９０近い叔母の元気な姿を確認してからお墓参りに行ってきて、なんか不思議な感じ、かすかな記憶のなか何にも変わってないようで色々変わっている。でもそこの時の軸の中では自分が一番変わったのかもと、時のギャップをいつもより感じ幼少の記憶を懐かしくも恋しく想ったり。。。

I took Shinkansen for the first time since I was in Jr. High school. I got a couple of lunch boxes at Tokyo station and enjoyed the ride〜♪ It was fun seeing and riding all the different trains in the local areas as well. Tokyo to Sabae via Maebara.

secret stealth helicopter?
It seemed fair game yesterday to report that the crashed helicopter at Osama bin Laden's compound to be a MH-60 Black Hawk. It was a secretly developed stealth helicopter, probably a highly modified version of an H-60 Blackhawk for the 160th special operations aviation regiment. Photos published in the Daily Mail show that the crashed helicopter's tail features stealth-configured shapes on the boom and tip fairings, swept stabilizers and a "dishpan" cover over a non-standard five-or-six-blade tail rotor. It has a silver-loaded infra-red suppression finish similar to that seen on some V-22s. Maybe that's why U.S. troops tried to destroy the crashed aircraft before leaving the site, and they lied about the type of aircraft they used in the mission. and it could explain why Pakistani defenses didn't see the first wave coming in. I want to see the helicopter !!
ビンラデン殺害ミッションに使用された米軍ヘリの一機がビンラデン宅でクラッシュしてますが、使用機は発表されていたMH-60 Black Hawkでないことが残骸の写真から判明。第160特殊作戦航空連隊のステルス加工バリバリのH-60もしくは未公開のステルスヘリじゃないかと。。写真に写っているプロペラの残骸からはステルス機に使用されるものと類似の構造が確認できるらしく、塗装もV-22等に使用されている赤外線電気抑制用シルバーではないかとのことです。パキスタン側は侵攻一波に気付かなかったり、退却前に米兵がクラッシュ機の焼却を試みたり、MH-60だったって嘘つくところをみると機密のステルスヘリってのはかなり可能性大。すごく気になる。。みてみたい。。 っていうか隠し事は良くないよ。。

japan is in pain
I know it's fading away from news in foreign countries, but this is a on going crisis. This is much worse than what you are thinking and it is not getting any better. Please don't forget about them. They will need long time help!! It doesn't matter how small your help is, even just think about them and pray for them would be great. All your kind thoughts and gestures will cheer them up for sure.
Unfortunately it is obvious that we can not really depend on our government for helping the victims or even fixing this huge mess...
In Iwaki City, Fukushima, There is tons of supplies just sitting only 0.6mile away from a community center where providing very limited water & food to the victims... They don't even release some to the individual volunteer groups. And military can not even deliver them to the victims until they get order from the administration. It is very frustrating see all the rescued supplies are being held. That's not where people wish to see their donation items at right now...

日本の報道や政府＆東電の対応には納得いかない事だらけでまったくもって腹立たしいです。
裕仁天皇陛下の玉音放送以来の異例で明仁天皇陛下の被災者や国民へお送りになられたビデオメッセージや、天皇皇后両陛下の都内の避難所をご訪問などは海外メディアの方が日本のよりしっかり報道している様にすごく感じています。国民と共に東京にお留まりになりたいとおっしゃっていた陛下、そんな両陛下のご意向を受けて宮内庁は自主停電、物資支援、浴場提供などなど色々と行っている様です。もっとちゃんと報道して陛下のお気持ちがもっと被災地の方々に届けば心の支えとなり励まされる方々は大勢いるのにと思うととても残念。姿くらましたり、800万円超かけて防災服を新調したり、全然国民の事考えている様に思えない行動ばかり目立つ何処だかの党のお偉い方とは大違い。両陛下はいつも国民と共にいておられます。

20pounds of flix
20 pounds of flix on ebay! Approximately 60% is walls mostly from the 80’s & 90’s, 40% of the photos in the collection are trains including freights. About 30% of the train photos are NY subway shots from 70’s, 80’s and 90’s!! I want those NY subway flix so bad!!!
只今量り売りスタイルでグラフィティの写真約11kgがebayにでていてめちゃくちゃ気になるんですがやっぱり値段は既に手の届かない所に。。全体の６０％は８０〜９０年代の壁、残り４０％は電車や貨物、でもってその中の３０％位は７０〜８０年代＆９０年代のNYの地下鉄マル秘作戦の写真らしく、うずくー！！ほしー！あー！

this winter...
It's been a big snowy and freezing winter this season. Snow is almost fading away completely from the streets and getting back to our regular scenery although we had a little more it yesterday... I love when we get snow like this. It makes the city completely a different place. I Guess I can say that since I don't have to shovel and dig out cars.. But it really showed us some of nature's beauty that you don't get to see very often..
終わったような事言ってると当分続いちゃいそうですが今冬は獄寒でしかも豪雪。。街は一変かなり雪国ですごく新鮮♪自分車ないし雪かきしなくて良いので言えるのかもしれませんが大雪大好き♪何かワクワクするし大自然を直に感じられる期間限定行事みたいな。先週からわりと我慢できる寒さになってきたし気付くとあんなにあった雪もほとんど解けていつも通りの風景にと思っていたら昨日また雪。。。まだ降るのかな？

who is Bozo Texino?
It was a such a film week for me. I went to another film screening. This time it was for "Who is Bozo Texino?" by Bill Daniel. It all starts with "Bozo Texino" which is a drawing seen on boxcars for more than 80 years (a long time before kids started painting colorful pieces on sides of boxcars with spray paint). It has been a mysterious secret society with its underground world of hobo and rail worker drawing/writing on them.I guess the Hobo culture has inspired a lot of the freight writers.
They don't hop on trains but their pieces travel through America (depending on the lines, some go to Mexico and Canada as well). Many of them know which yard and which car to paint so it gets travel. And nowadays, you can even track the car with the car numbers online or call the company.
This film makes me want to hop on a freight train! Great film!
先週はなんか映画週間になってしまいました。二日目はBill Daniel製作の"Who is Bozo Texino?"の試写会へ。アメリカの貨物列車に８０年以上前から描かれてきた謎のキャラ"Bozo Texino"から始まり、スプレーでカラフルなグラフィティピースが描かれるずっと前から、貨物列車に飛び乗り旅するHoboや鉄道ワーカー等がオイルステックで描いてきた落書き。この謎めいた秘密の世界が覗けます。必見♪
貨物列車の醍醐味はアメリカ中（線によってはメキシコやカナダ）を走ることで、どの車庫のどの貨物に描けば何処へ行くとかちゃんと知っているライター達も数多くいます。今は便利な物で貨物の番号を問い合わせれば何処にその貨物がいるのかもわかっちゃったりします。多分,旅するのは自分じゃなくて描いたピースですが貨物列車への魅力はHobo文化から受け継がれているのかもしれません。
貨物に飛び乗ってどっかへ消えちゃいたい症候群発病で現実逃飛行。したい。。。

a love letter for you
I went to a movie screening for Joey Garfield and Steve ESPO Power's "a love letter for you".
It documents Steve as he paints a series of murals on 50 rooftops along the Septa EL train line in West Philly. It also mixes in the fictional story of FIRE (a character based on one of the great Philly writers, AGUA).
There always comes a time for a graffiti writer to rethink how he balances his life and graffiti. Everybody has different answers for that but whatever you become (mainstream, artist, sell-out..), that's what you decide and earn. It doesn't matter what people say because all the missions you went through, the most energetic, exciting and shining moments of your life- that is graffiti.
It's a great film to check out the history of Philly graffiti as well. Big up Steve!
Joey Garfield と Steve ESPO Powerが製作した"a love letter for you"の試写会に行ってきました。
SteveのSepta ELトレイン沿いの壁画プロジェクトのドキュメンタリーとPhillyのライターAGUAをベースにした主人公FIREのフィクションストーリーをうまく絡めたこの映画。
ハーコーなライターだったらいつかは考える時が来る将来の身の振り方とグラフィティとのバランス関係。これにはそれぞれ違う答えがあると思うし、グラフィティからメインストリーム，アートへと進化変身していくのは個々が選んだ道であり勝ち取ったもの。だからそれに対して周りがなんと言おうと関係ないし、今がどうこう以上に重要な事は今まで遂行したマル秘作戦;人生で一番スリリングで輝いていた瞬間があるという事，それがグラフィティ。
とにかく、このフィルムは良い感じにPhillyグラフィティをみせているのでそちらもお勧め。ビゴップSteve!

Guérewol
The Guérewol is an annual courtship ritual competition among the Wodaabe Nomadic Fulani people in Niger. They are traditionally nomadic cattle-herders and traders in the Sahel, They travel from southern Niger, through northern Nigeria, northeastern Cameroon, and the western region of the Central African Republic. They are known for their beauty, elaborate attire and rich cultural ceremonies. In the Fula language, Woɗaaɓe means "people of the taboo".

The space race is on again. USAF has been playing with X-37B since last year, Russian industry has outlined the craft's design, We will soon see something from Russia. However, when they were still Soviet Union, they had a space program called Buran from 1988 to 1993. It looks very smiler to American Space Shuttle, but the structure and system are completely different than the American's. 昨年から米空軍はX-37B無人シャトル飛ばして遊んでいますが、ロシアも宇宙船開発中とのことで米露宇宙開発レースが再会らしいですが、1988〜1993年まで続いた旧ソの宇宙プログラムBuran。見た目は米製スペースシャトルそっくりなんですが、構造や打ち上げシステムなんかはまるっきし違うらしく、1988年には206分間にわたり無人で地球軌道を周回し、発射場所であるバイコヌール宇宙基地の滑走路に自動着陸を成功させてたりとかなりの強者。でも今回もまた真似呼ばわりされるんですかね？

One of the main events for this trip was the Grand Canyn Railway ! It runs to Grand Canyon from Williams. I was so looking forward to that train ride. It is about 2 and a half hour ride. It is definitely a fun way to reach the Grand Canyon !

GC Caverns
旧ルート６６沿いセルグマンとキングマンの中間あたりにある洞窟Grand Canyon Cavern。６５億年前に出来たこの洞窟は地下67メートルにあって幅６０メートル長さ１２０メートル高さ２０メートル。米国で一番でかい乾燥した洞窟らしいです。1962年のキューバ危機の際この洞窟をシェルターとして仕様出来るよう運び込まれた水や備品は当時のまま。
About half way through from Seligman to Kingman, you'll see the sign of Caverns Inn. The Grand Canyon Cavern is located in that area. It is 220 feet below ground, in a cavern that took 65 million years to form, in a room that is 200 feet wide, 400 feet long with a 70 foot ceiling. It's the largest dry cavern in the United States. They considered using the caverns as the bomb shelter during the Cuban missile crisis and the supplies are still

It was already dark when we reached Sedona, AZ. Recently Sedona became famous as
the vortex spot. Anyway we woke up early next morning and saw the sunrise at the top
of Cathedral Rock. It was about a 20-30 minute climb. The view was really nice there.
I am not sure if it was vortex or not, but the view will make you feel good for sure. We
stopped by at the Chapel of the Holy Cross which is a cool looking church sticking out
in between the rocks. We then had a late breakfast and headed to Boynton Canyon.
We hiked for over 5 hours and it didn't have a cool finale as Cathedral Rock... but it
was fun. We headed to the next destination, Selgman, AZ before it got dark.
次の目的地セドナへ日が暮れた頃に到着、この町は最近パワースポットとして人気らしいです。
翌朝はCathedral Rockへ日の出を観にがんばって早起き。２０〜３０分登るとそこはもう半端
無く絶景♪ パワースポット効いてたかどうかは知りませんがあの絶景は気分良くなります。
そのあと秘密基地みたく岩の真ん中から突き出ている教会the Chapel of the Holy Crossに
一瞬よって、遅い朝食をとって、Boynton Canyonトレイルをハイク。５時間ほど歩いた割には
あんまり感動のわかない終わりでしたが遠足気分で楽しかったです。で日が暮れないうちに
次の目的地セルグマンへ。。

sonoran hot dog
Tucson is known(?) for the Sonoran hot dog. This Mexcican-American food was born in the borderland. The hot dog is wrapped in bacon with beans piled high together with grilled onions, fresh onions, tomatoes, mayonnaise, cream sauce, mustard, and jalapeno
salsa. All that is stuffed into a soft puffy Mexican bread called Bolillo. We went to taste the Sonoran hot dog at El Güero Canelo♪ The Sonran hot dog was not the only item on the menu that was delish...the other dishes are good as well.
ツーソンといえばソノランホットドック！。。らしいので美味しいと評判なEl Güero Caneloへ。ソノランホットドックはホットドックにベーコン巻々してあり、豆、タマネギ、マヨ、クリームソース、マスタード、ハラペーニョサルサ等色々とBolillosというメキシコのやらかいパンに載せまくった国境の街ならではのメキシカンアメリカンフュージョン。ヘビーなのかと思いきや食べやすくて美味♪ ここ他のメニューもかなり旨しくお勧めマンチスポット♪

I went on a little road trip to Arizona a couple of weeks ago. First, we landed to
Tucson, AZ to check out 309th AMARG (Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration
Group) at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base it's known as Boneyard. It's basically an
airplane graveyard. There are all kinds of retired Government aircraft stored there.
I also visited Pima Air & Space Museum which is located next to the base. They have
tons of aircraft, some of them are nicely displayed while some of the displays are
left outside and need better maintenance. Seeing those bad maintained aircrafts is
painful knowing that they performed their duties. Anyways I had so much fun there.
この前アリゾナへちょこっとロードトリップしてきました。まず最初の目的地は念願叶い
ツーサンのDavis-Monthan空軍基地にある309th AMARG (Aerospace Maintenance and
Regeneration Group)とそれに隣接しているpima Air&Space航空博物館♪ 309th AMARGは
通称Boneyardと呼ばれている航空機の墓場で、引退した航空機達が大量に保管されて
います。博物館の方にはたくさんの航空機が展示してあり、屋内展示は良かったんですが
屋外展示の多くは整備されておらず放置状態でなんか悲しげ。。でも零戦にもご挨拶出来、
ミグとかもあったしとにかく飛行機三昧の一日でした♪

Brooklyn Flea is a flea market held at a school court yard on Lafayette and Vanderbilt in Brooklyn during the summer time. It had finished for this year and relocated to the clock tower at Hanson place. I enjoy walking through all kinds of junks, eating some tasty vendor food, bumping into friends and enjoying the weather. It was just nice way to spend Saturday afternoons this past summer♪ Well, I am looking forward to next years flea.

Durbar is the two annual Muslim festivals to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr (to mark the end of the
Holy Month of Ramadan / 2011 Aug 31) and Eid al-Adha (to mark the Hajj Holy Pilgrimage / 2011 Nov 6) in several cities of Nigeria. The dates change every year since it is on the Islamic Calender, not on the solar calender. So make sure the dates before you plan a trip. I would love to go check them out. Over the weekend news of the Underbelly Project's subway station art show hit the internet. Over 100 artists have put their art work since 2009. The project was started in the abandoned station in NY subway system. They made the location very mysterious.; however it's located in Brooklyn. A six-track IND ghost station sits above the G train stop at Broadway in Bushwick. South 4th St. station, technically it was not an abandoned station, It's never seen revenue
service before, and in fact, it doesn't even have a rail track running through it, no through tunnels, it is an abandoned dream. This nearly 100 years old untouched abandoned subway station has been painted by numbers of artists and called it a secret subway art gallery.. I usually don't have any guilty feelings to bomb inside of tunnels, but not for this one since it has been kept silent and sits in the dark for almost a century untouched. They should not just showed up and destroyed this piece of NY subway history for the damn hip art project...
数日前からネットであげられているthe Underbelly Project's subway station art show、NY地下鉄の閉鎖されている駅で２００９年から１００人以上のアーティストを集い壁に絵を描いていくとか言うプロジェクト。場所は謎みたいな事書いてあったけど、BrooklynはBushwickにあります。GラインのBroadway駅の真上あたりで、１９２9年から出ていたビックプロジェクトで６線の乗り継ぎができるでかいターミナルSouth 4th st駅建設が計画されたらしいですが、線路引く事もなく夢で終わってしまいそのまま放置。このNY地下鉄の歴史もヒップなアートプロジェクトのせいで90年近く静かに眠っていたのに色々描かれちゃって。。何が秘密のアートギャラリーだよまったく、そっとしておけば良いものを、どうせ本とかだしたりすんでしょ。やり方が汚い。あ〜気分悪い.もう。。

As soon as the temperatures begin to rise in spring, the ice and snow on the mountaintops begins to melt and runs down into the basin of land below.The park fills up with ice-cold crystal clear water, which gets its distinctive green colouring from the grass and foliage beneath. The water levels rise from about one or two metres deep in the winter to as much as 10 metres in the late spring and early summer. The waters are at their highest in June and it's the best time to visit under the water. Now I want to go to Austria!

It's been almost 2 weeks since we got a crazy tornado in the Brooklyn & Queens area. As seen on photos and videos online, NYC looked like a scene from Ghost Busters all of sudden as a result of 20 minutes of crazyness. I was at work, and had no idea it was getting crazy like that outside. I was surprised when I returned to Brooklyn. Big trees were torn down everywhere, I even saw few cars smashed by fallen trees... A tornado hit Brooklyn back in 2007 after 118 years. This one only waited 3 years to touch down. Natural disasters always hit you out of the blue... be prepared..

Shake Shack opened up near 42nd & Port Authority not that long ago. This new place has a long line just like the one on Madison Square park. Now at least I can check the line from our office on 40th and catch the right time to get burgers. They are open til midnight for my late night work munchies.

Train Graffiti in 1920's!! It caught my eyes on Bates' blog this morning. It seems like those photos are the train which transported the Trinity College (Duke University) Football team to Raleigh, NC. It appears to showcase writing in support of the team.. Imagine if back in the 1920s trains ran with writing all over. Well, it is not the case but the flick looks fresh.

USAF was having an event at the Times Square the other day... I was walking towards
the subway station from work, and noticed a display of 2 monster trucks. It seemed
like they tried to make one truck look like A-10 Thunderbolt II... I kept walking towards
the station, and guess what I saw!? An F-16 from USAF Thunderbirds! The event was
already finished and they were dismantling. The wings were folded and ready to put in
the trailer or something... It was actually interesting to see it like that. I wish I had come
outside during my lunch break... They’re always having random events at Times Square..

I went to check out the Nike Air Force 1 -Anatomy of an urban legend - screening at Apollo Theatre last Friday. Overall it was definitely an interesting film.
Reach, our home boy from Paris did all the illustration in the film as well. Big up Reach!
I wish they would have featured GoreTex (Nitro Microphone Underground) AF1 from
1World pack in the film. The Nitraid original Digital Real Weed Camo on the reflective
materialis one of the rarest and most innovative AF1. Definitely AF1's best kept secret.
Nitro crew also made the song "Special Force" to celebrate the Nike AF1 25th Anniversary.

The British Ministry of Defence has unveiled its prototype unmanned stealth combat air vehicle (UCAV), Taranis developing by BAE. It looks like Boeing's unmanned Phantom Ray stealth aircraft. I guess it's just the matter of colors, but Black with Red make it looks much cooler. It was named after the Celtic god of thunder, Taranis. I want to see it flying.

Yesterday, My home girl, Yumi told me that one of her friends from Osaka, Taka is going to put a big balloon that says LOVE in Japanese right next to the LOVE sculpture on 55st and 6ave at 2pm. So I went to checked it out. He showed up with a suitcase at 14:00pm just on time. It took him less than 10 minutes to put it up including the loss time for a vendor guy's interruption. However his piece stood out nicely right next the original LOVE. Unfortunately Police didn't show up to harass him at all. I saw 1 cop watching him setting it up. but he didn't do anything. I know I am wrong, but I kinda wanted to see something crazy happen..lol Big up Taka!

if you are in the eastern United States, you had the great opportunity to see the space shuttle Endeavour launch into orbit at 4:39am.and onlookers would have been able to witness the launch for roughly 10 minutes. This was the last nighttime Shuttle launch ever. Even though it was a surprisingly wide area for spotting the launch, I missed it!!.. I couldn't wake up...zzz...

Felix Baumgartner is planning to try a stratospheric free fall jump from 120,000 feet above the earth, to the very edge of Space this year. It will be the longest in the history of man and he might be the first human to break the speed of sound with his own body.
He will join US Air Force Captain Joseph Kittinger as the only man to jump from near space altitude. Kittinger jumped on August 16, 1960, from the Excelsior III balloon, at 102,800 feet.

I was shocked when I saw this photo. It says Climate change has turned some polar bears into cannibals as global warming melts their Arctic ice hunting grounds. BUT it is not convincing enough. It seems like Adult male bears occasionally kill and eat polar bear cub for reasons that are unclear.. However this is a sick photo. and We are destroying the nature for sure...

I had an opportunity to get on JMSDF(Japan Marine Self-Defense Force) DD-113 Sazanami for the JMSDF Fleet Review 2009. It was really cool seeing all the ships, hovercraft, Submarines, and Aircraft passing by although although weather wasn't so great and Sazanami were kinda far part from rest of them... I knew L.L.Bean has bunch of the Real Tree Camo items for Hunting, and I am not that big fun of the camo because I would look like a red neck who loves to shoot animals... lol However they got some cool camo items. The one I like most is the Wool pants. it is so fresh! They have Camo Wool Jacket as well.
Tote Bags seems be really useful. The moccasins look nice and it doesn't bother me in Camo patterns. I have seen few knifes and tools in Camo on their site although I don't know if it's good idea. You will have very hard time finding it if you drop it at the site. I think Buck Omni Knife with neon orange on works better for the reason, you can not loose it that easy. lol And Yes! Gillie suit! I just would love to have a pair just because... I know, I know, It doesn't have any use if you are not a hunter or sniper...

Researchers at the University of Washington are developing contact lenses as HUD display devices. So far only rabbits at the test site can get to wear those high tech contact lenses. The main tank called the ‘Kuroshio Sea’ holds 7,500-cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world’s second largest acrylic glass panel, measuring 8.2 meters by 22.5 meters with a thickness of 60 centimeters. Blue 9 Burger
My boy Hide has returned from Tokyo after his extended hiatus. I linked up with him the other day and went to check out some burger spots. We didn't know where to go this time, so we just randomly picked a spot we googled. Our search result brought up Blue 9 Burger.. It had good reviews, although it was just a regular ass burger joint....I couldn't taste anything special about their burger. Then we went to have some Paul's burger right after we finished eating an unsatisfying Blue 9 burger. That too was a mistake!! We were forgetting how big burgers are at Paul's....The burger tasted good, but it was too much burger for one night....

そういえばイギリスAmsafe社によって開発されたハイテク生地を米軍DARPA(Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency)がテスト用に30程オーダー，ちなみにお値段の方は＄100,000.. この生地は戦車等のアーマーとして使用されるらしく、現在使用されているアルミ製より５０％, 鋼鉄製のより８５％も軽く、より多くの装備を可能としている。クッションのように爆発時の衝撃を消散する効果もあるとのことで、このファイバー生地戦地で活躍する日も近いんでしょうかね。この記事に載っていた写真で使用されている迷彩がT-PartternやDazzle迷彩を思い出させる感じで気になっちゃっています。

New M-ATV in Afghan
今週 Oshkosh社製の新型M-ATV (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected - armored fighting vehicle)がアフガンに初となる７台が到着。現在配備されている物は険しいすぎるアフガンの地形に対応できてなく、迅速に救世車となるニューシットの導入に動いていたようで２００９年６月にOshkosh社のM-ATVに決定、2,244台の生産予定だったのも直ぐさま追加オーダーで合計4,296台、そして部品＆整備等諸々トータル23億ドル分のオーダー＄。年末までもうすぐですが毎月1,000台納品を目指しているようです。でもちょっとみためはBAEの方が好きかも。。

Saturday Jerk
The Jive Turkey restaurant in my neighborhood has been doing Jerk Chicken as their Saturday special since the beginning of summer. They have a grill set on the sidewalk where they cook the spicy jerk chicken like no ones business. It comes with a small festival as well. I am feeling that they will stop doing this for the year since it's getting cold outside. Yup, winter is right ahead of us....

この前, 天安門で催された中華人民共和国６０周年パレード。今回の赤い自己満足は
人力よりテクノロジーを押す方向で５０周年パレードの２４，０００人から８，０００人へと
兵士を削減、そのかわり５２種類の戦車、ミサイル、無人航空機等のディスプレーなどが
なされ、その多くが今まで発表されていなかった物らしいです。西欧に遅れを取っている
中国製航空機やヘリコプターも１５０機程登場。。
地元の人達には政府からパレードは家でテレビ見て祝う様にと指示があったそうです。。
なんだよそれ。。
頭、胸、銃、手、足の位置を確認するのにヒモを使用してのパレード練習。。。
観てて思ったんですが身長もみんなほぼ同じ。。。やることがほんと赤い。。。

Redwoods : Living Giants
National Geographic photographer Michael Nichols spent an entire year in California's redwood forests. His mission was to capture the majesty of some of the tallest trees on Earth. Those trees are easily over 1,000 years old as well. It involved three cameras, a team of scientists, a robotic dolly, a gyroscope, an 83-photo composite and a lot of patience to take the photo below. Check out Redwoods : Living Giants on National Geographic October issue. The magazine, with the help of the Wildlife Conservation Society and Save The Redwoods League, also sent Mike Fay on a trek from the southernmost redwood in Big Sur to the northernmost tree near Oregon's Chetco River. It took him and his hiking partner, Lindsey Holm, more than a year of non-stop hiking to complete the trek of more than 2,000 miles. We need to be easy on nature more.

Baby MRAP
Baby MRAP - are All-Terrain Vehicles that are a smaller and a lighter off-road version of the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle BAE Systems developed. The effort gives U.S. troops in Afghanistan a lighter and more agile armored vehicle. This mirrors the Defense Department’s original push to give troops in Iraq MRAPs. The first 7 vehicles are expected to arrive in Afghanistan sometime today. They look similar to the Japanese SDF's Komatsu LAV.

先日ピッツバーグではG２０首脳会合の開催にともない多くのプロテスト運動が勃発。
対デモ警察隊は催涙ガス、スタングレネード、煙幕弾などに加えてソニック兵器サウンドブラスターを仕様。これは長距離音響装置（LRAD）といって要するに不愉快な音を爆音で流し心理的ダメージを与えたり攻撃意欲を無くしたりし暴動等を鎮圧するのを目的の一つとして開発されたもので、米軍が数多く所有しておりアフガンやイラクでも使用されているみたいです。 米国内で一般市民に対して使用されたのは始めてらしいです。最近ではソマリア沖で対海賊に使ったり、国外追放されたホンジュラスのセラヤ大統領が身を潜めていたブラジル大使館へも使用されたりと、かなり近所迷惑。。日本にはこの手の兵器昔からよく走ってますよね。lol
二つ目のビデオはこの武器とは関係ないんですがG20サミットのデモでの出来事。。。軍人らしき奴等に一人さらわれちゃいました。。。恐ろしや。。。

Rasta Pasta & Jerk Chicken
On Sunday I spent my afternoon at a street festival down the street from my crib with the Davis family. I found a sign that said "Rasta Pasta" on a booth -- My coworker told me
about Rasta Pasta before, and I always wanted to try it.... I thought it was a vegetarian dish, but in reality it's named after the color of the dish; they use red pepper, pasta (yellow) and green pepper. Anyway it tasted pretty plain, but I liked it with really spicy jerk chicken♪

Shinnecock Indian Powwow
Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to go check out Shinnecock Indian's Harvest celebration Pow-wow at the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Eastern Long Island, New York. Shinnecock Indians are an Algonquin people who have forever lived along the shores of Eastern Long Island.
Ron's boy Chris who is from the Shinnecock Reservation showed us around the area and told us a little bit about his tribe. At this Pow-wow a lot of people came to celebrate, also many other tribes joined from all over the nation. I tried some Wampanoag food, such as Tumasis,quail meat, deer meat and buffalo meat. They were pretty tasty♪Big up to Chris for his great hospitality!

I went to have a lunch at Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. I got a Shack Stack since
I was starving and being greedy... It was tasty but the 2 patties and a breaded, deep-fried
portobello mushroom stuffed with muenster and cheddar cheese was little too much for me... However regular burgers are not that big and really good. They also have nice milkshakes as well♪ Good lunch at the park♪ but I ate too much....

I found strange surveillance cameras mounted on the wall of a construction site. It seems be so pointless... there is whole bunch of "Under Video Surveillance 24hrs" signs all over the wall by spray paint. They are also pointless... although it looks like someone had fun writing it. As well as those hand made stencil signs, maybe a writer?

for my most honorable masta Skimuchi's born day dinner. My favorite was the Curry Roti for the appetizer. Fallen Battery
I keep breaking things lately... My laptop battery popped out all the sudden... I had no idea
how that happened since it was on my desk the whole time.... Anyway I brought it to the Apple store so they can figure it out. Surprisingly they replaced it with a brand new one

Terakawa Ramen
I stopped by at Terakawa ramen that just opened last month on Lexington ave between 22nd and 23rd. I ordered Tonkotsu flavor ramen noodle with mini curry rice. the curry rice was cold and awful.... The noodle was ok, it was not as good as I was expected but I guess it is pretty good in NY. I'll try Miso flavor next time..

So this building by my job is restoring these old walls that have probably had 30 years of graffiti on them... I was watching these guys put chemicals and grind out the wall over the course of 2 weeks...Some cool old tags popped up, Zephyr, Stash2, but I caught this "Samo Is Dead" which looks like a legit Basquiat type thing... It's gone now, the wall is clean, however, they probably could have caked off on this shit...

A New Earphone
The left side of my Nitraid Headphone that I stole from my man Cherick have stopped working at last.... So I went to get a new headphone... I usually don't research anything and end up staying at the store for long time.... Anyway I decided to get a earphone this time, thinking about the comfort of riding my bike under the hot hot summer sun. Also EightMan was talking about his BOSE headphone last week that encouraged me to get a BOSE earphone after a long meeting with my wallet.... Anyway I put it on, and on the way home everything was fine up until I got right infront of my crib.... Fuuuck!!! The earphone cord got hooked on something and fell apart.... I often break headphones, but it didn't even last a day this time..... I am now using the ear set which came with my phone...

Saturday night I crossed the bridge to check out KRS ONE show, but I couldn't get in since
my friend showed up late. So we went to drink at some random bar and somehow we ended up at Katz. I got a Pastarami Sandwitch. The guy just dumped a pile of Pastrami on the bread.... It looks 120% heavy duty heartache food although it was a good munchies. And what I liked was the green pickle on the side, which kind of reminds me a Japanese pickled in salt.
Morning Practice
I had a morning practice on a clay court this weekend. It felt kind of funny since I usually play on the hard court. My Knee started hurting after the practice.... Yuck.... I took train to work today to take it easy.... I hope it heals soon....

Moday Off
I started Memorial Day morning with tennis practice and then biked around the park with my nephew right after. For lunch, I had a great Watermelon Margarita & Ginger Caipirinha at Pillow by my crib. I finally tried this Chinese spot, Ying Du on 38th Between 7 & 8Av. It has kinda China Town vibes. And food there is pretty tasty and cheap ♪ it gets pretty busy during the lunch time and they close early. If you are around Penn Station & Times Square area around lunch time, it might be a good spot for lunch♪

LEGO FAV Buggy
I built a FAV (Fast Attack Vehicle) Dune Buggy from scratch with left over pieces〜♪ It didn't look like the buggy as much as I thought it would once I compared it with the real FAV... Well.. I still like how it came out♪
The FAVs are built by Chenowth. They are modified versions of off-road race cars that U.S. Military elite units use. They are currently operated only by SEAL Team THREE, the unit assigned to the Middle East as DPV (Desert Patrol Vehicle).

Kamui Den Shio
Shio Ramen Noodle (Salt based broth) from Kamui Den in Alphabet City. I thought it would be some special shit since they only serve the Ramen after 11pm. Well.. it was not as good as I was expected... the soup was too plain for me.. it needs little more kick to it... Although the chicken that was in the Ramen was pretty good. Maybe it will taste good when you're drunk... I should try it again when I'm drunk and see what's up, lol I wanna come back here for Udon and other shit..

Kambi Ramen
I went to try some Ramen noodle at Kambi. As soon as I entered to the spot, the waitress was like you need to eat quick because we are closing soon. I had already started dislike this spot... Anyway I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen (Pork Bone Broth). it tasted really familiar.. the spot is a sister store of Minca. they just changed the name but taste same and everything... Well I like the taste, but at same time I was disappointed... I guess I was expecting to have something new... However I love the slice stewed pork and egg♪

Hang Son Doong
Hang Son Doong is a mountain river cave that a local guy, Ho Khanh discovered back in '91 in the heart of the Vietnamese jungle although now the British explores are claiming they've discovered it... However it is Measuring more than 198meters (650 ft) high and almost 152meters (500 ft) wide in the main chamber. It is believed to be larger than the Deer Cave in Sarawak, Malaysia, which at more than 91meters (100 yards) high and 82meters (90 yards) wide is currently recognized as the world's largest cave passage. The cave is at least 4miles deep. They will go back and complete the expedition of the cave and conduct a full survey later in the year.

A Lego builder, Mitsui finally completed his 1/40 Lego Japanese battle ship Yamato 6 years and 4 months after he started♪ 6.6m long, 1.0m wide, 150kg, 200,000 pieces. This is just incredible! You should check out the detail of the ship! He announced it on his web site on April, 7 which is the day Yamato was attacked and sunk 64years ago. This guy has been done a lot of kool Lego creations, But one thing it bothers me is why he put time to create B-29??? I mean that would not be my choice for sure...
However the real Yamato is still at bottom of the ocean, 345m deep, 176km south of Nannyo Islands, Nagasaki, Japan, lat. 30°43′N, Long. 128°04′E.. Rest In Peace.

During the cold war, both U.S. and Soviet tried so many silly things to proof they are better than the other... Of cause they tried some on the rail as well. Russian prototype Jet Train was built in early 1970's. Its maximum speed was about 180 mph. American one called M-497, a jet-powered engine was tested in 1966. The train did exceed 183 mph which is still a U.S. record today...

Okinawa Boots
Made in 1950's, these are the very first US Army's modern jungle boots. They are WWII Double Buckle boots that have been redesigned with canvas parts for tropical climates. Many of early soldiers who were deployed to Vietnam from Okinawa wore them, hence the name.
They look fresh but I don't think I can rock them right... Something about the tall boots that I can't get down with.... I guess they would be one of my those displayed only items... Although a pair of these in dead stock sounds quite attractive to me...

Sin Nombre
This weekend became a movie weekend♪ I went to check out Sin Nombre. It is directed by Cary Fukunaga. It is a deep movie. Seeking the promise of America, a young Honduran woman, Sayra, joins her father and uncle and hops on the freight trains to cross the South America to reach to the United States. Along the way she crosses paths with a teenaged Mexican gang member, El Casper, who is trying to outrun his violent past and elude his unforgiving former associates. Together they journey towards the hope of new lives. It made me think of how lucky I am in my situation..
La Haine
I went to Ron's crib to celebrate his mother's birthday last Friday~♪ I fell asleep, as usual, and woke up the next day around noon... and we were lazy all day. We watched a french film, La Haine, It was directed by Mathieu Kassovitz. It is said that Kassovitz based the script on the actual death of 22 year old French Arab Malik Oussekine, who was beaten to death by police following a 1986 university demonstration. However, the movie was inspired by an incident where a young Zairian, Makome M'Bowole, was shot in 1993. He was killed at point blank range while in police custody and handcuffed to a radiator. The officer was reported to have been angered by Makomé's words, and had been threatening him when the gun went off accidentally.. Nique La Police!!!

I went to check out George Clinton & P-Funk Finally〜♪ I always wanted to see them.
I was quite surprised that the audience was so random, it was a very eclectic group of people. I guess it just shows how P-Funk has been inspiring people throughout the decades. However they did show up just when I was getting tired of waiting but put on a crazy show as expected it was really entertaining. Each member had totally different styles which was pretty intense. Gene Poo Poo Man Anderson even had a dipper on.. However it was really cool to check out their show〜♪ The P-Funk〜♪

The final three choices were Duke Ellington, Frederick Douglass and Benjamin Banneker♪ Out of these three great African Americans, I feel like Duke Ellington was a safe pick for them to avoid some conflicts since many people recognize him as a Jazz legend rather than an activist...
However, he is not actually the first African American to be on the US coin, The real first African-American to appear on a circulating coin was York, a slave who accompanied Lewis and Clark on their "Corps of Discovery" adventures across America at the dawn of the 19th century. The 2003 Missouri quarter features the three men together in a canoe on the obverse. Obviously York didn't get any props like he deserved...

Sick Days pt.2
I have been sick for almost a month... the Pneumonia is almost gone. I still have pain in my chest, a breathing problem and a stuffy ear. Although I feel much better than before. It's been hell with all this shit at once. I have so many medications it's like a pharmacy. Just to list a few... Hydrocodone, Azithromycin, Proventil HFA Inhaler, Antipyrine/Benz Otic Sol, Levaquin, Ciprodex Otic Susp, Amox/Calv 875, Avelox, Clarithromycin, Apap/Codeine #3, Ketorolac, Ketorolac Tromethami Injection and Mortrin. Hopefully I can end this hell really soon. Being healthy is a true blessing. I will try to lead a healthy life the rest of this year. No More Getting Sick!!

BO NOW!
It's the 3rd day of the Obama Administration, and I am still fighting against Pneumonia.... Since I was not even close to DC, I shared the historic moment on TV. I have never seen the Inauguration to be that popping although I expected it to be that way. It was crazy! It was like a Superbowl weekend. More than 1million people crowd DC that day, Many celebrities from all the genre joined to celebrated the beginning of the Obama Administration as well. I am not an eligible voter, but my heart is routing for him. This is a really important moment for me with all the issues including taxes, health care, immigration, foreign policy etc... From so many different perspectives this will effect all of us. Change is good, especially with all the good possibilities. I'm just curious how it is going to be, really excited, but on the other hand I am still worried that something bad happen or some disappointments. I don't expect him to fix everything in one term or two at all, I would love him to make the strong base to redirect this country in the long run. I am really hoping that he leads us to better America, a better World. And maybe soon in the future I will hold the American flag with no inferiority complex♪

Sick Days
Finally I reached to my sister's... I just suffered the pain and laid down on the bed most of time for the next 5 days looking at same view thru the window.... I was blessed to have my sister's great hospitality although I could not recover much before I went back to NY.... I couldn't play with my nephews, I couldn't even go to the city either.... My holiday was just a big disaster... I got an ear infection on my flight back to NY, and the cold transformed to a sinus infection, and now Pneumonia is giving me painful time... I cannot wait to recover and get back to regular life...

My last day in Barcelona, I tried to go sightseeing as it was a sunny day although my condition was getting worst. I felt so sick and could not even stand up straight when I got to my first stop, Temple De La Sagrada Familia.... So I decided to head to the airport early and sat right in front of the gate for a long painful 5 hours.... I totally ruined my Barcelona trip.... Only good thing was to meet some new people with good vibes. Well,,, I guess I need to go back to Barcelona one day when I am not sick....

I just held the pain and walked around the area I stayed in for little bit. I came across to Boqueria Market. All the meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables looked really fresh there. I had lunch at Kiosko Universal which is in the market. I had mixed mushrooms, mixed seafood and Swordfish (I think..). I wish I wasn't sick, I could have enjoyed the food so much more. I was just not up for it that day.....

Barcelona #1
I went to Barcelona for 4days after X-mas. I started feeling little sick the night before I went to Barcelona from the bullshit I went thru in the extremely cold weather. And my 2nd day in Barcelona, I officially got sick and spent most of time laying down, coughing and suffering the pain. I couldn't even go check out all the Gaudi's pieces I wanted to. However, the day I landed in Barcelona I didn't feel too sick. So I went to check out a reggae party I saw on a poster on the street after I had some paella. I started talking to this guy Mr.Thai at the party. and it turns out that it was him and his boys, Bassline Sounds' party♪ I ended up chilling with them all night with their great hospitality. It was so great to experience some of the Spain Reggae scene. Almost everybody in the spot was rolling some hash constantly. Big ups Mr.Thai & Bassline Sounds〜♪

X'mas Dinner
I have been sick for almost 3 weeks, it ruined my holidays big time... Anyway I went to see my little nephews in England for X-mas♪ I got there in the X-mas morning. After my nephews opened all their X-mas presents, we went to my brother-in-law's parents house for the X-mas dinner. This year's main dish was Turkey, Goose & Quail with stuffing inside. During the Vietnam War, US Army Special Forces Soldiers often customized camo pattern on their OD Green uniforms with spray paints, brush paints, oil stains, etc.. Recently I have found one great example of the hand painted camo dated 1963.
Winiche&Co. created Spray Camo shirts & pants inspired by the handmade camo. Of course we made each one with our own hands as well♪ check'em out〜♪

Restavrante Botin
Our last night in Spain, we went to the Restavrante Botin for dinner. According to the Guinness Book of Records, this is the oldest restaurant in the world, dating back to 1725.
The atmospheres at the spot kind of reminds me of Peter Luger steak house in Brooklyn..
Anyway I had their specialty dish Roast Suckling Pig for my entree〜♪ and I got some Ice cream with mango sauce or something for desert which was hella good〜♪

Granada
That night, we had a dinner at this restaurant that has really nice view of La Alhambra.
I got this fillet mignon with duck liver on the top which was pretty tasty♪ We went to several bars and got tipsy with Havana Club and explored the area the rest of the night. The next day
we were going to check out the Cathedral before heading back to Madrid. But it was closed.... So we walked around til it was time to catch our bus. I slept thru the bus ride back to Madrid.

Palacio de la Alhambra #4
I am not quiet sure If whole thing is la Alhambra, or just this main Building is La Alhambra.... Anyway I finally got into the main building when the sun was already falling... It got dark and not many lights were there... However the place is really nice! I can totally see it as some spiritual place.. I am sure they put so many thoughts and technique into the palace. It was just amazing to see all the details.

El Albayzin is the oldest area in Granada, which is located right below La Alhambra. It was nice to see Sierra Nevada on the back of the palace as well. La Alhambra and El Albayzin are one of the World Heritage Site.

Our 2nd day, We went to check out la Alhambra〜♪ It was completed towards the end of
Muslim rule in Spain by Yusuf I and Muhammed V, Sultan of Granada in 13th century when Christian Spain took over Granada by Al Andalus. They changed around La Alhambra to be a Christian palace... Mosque to Church... Arabic to Spanish.....
However La Alhambra mixes natural elements with man-made ones. It's a testament to the advanced skill of Muslim craftsmen of that time. It was really interesting to see Moors and Spanish architecture which they built way after. Although Moors are much advanced and more functional.

A Long Way To Granada #2
I linked up with Ron at Madrid airport and headed to Michelle's apartment.
We had breakfast and walked around the Grand Plaza for little bit. Then we took a bus to Granada.
I slept through the 5 hours ride except for the 30 minute break at some small village.
We had Moroccan for the dinner that night. We also checked out few bars and I walked around exploring the city. It was a long day, long way to Granada..

On the thanksgiving weekend, I joined Ron & Michelle to check out Granada, Spain〜♪
That was a long way to Granada... So many switching flights, trains and bus.... I flew from Newark Airport to Lisbonne, Portugal. and headed to Madrid, Spain after the an hour lay over. I linked up with Ron and Michelle at Madrid. and we took 5 hours bus ride to Granada, Spain which is a small city in southern part of Spain. the city has huge influence of Muslims/Moors.
I hate having lay over at some countries or cities I have never been... I was there but not really, just stuck at the air port... It's so wack!

2,700 Years Old Stash
The oldest cannabis stash was found at Yangai Tombs in China. It is 2,700 years old〜♪
The size of seeds mixed in with the leaves, along with their color and other characteristics,
indicate the marijuana came from a cultivated strain. Before the burial, someone had carefully picked out all of the male plant parts, which are less psychoactive. The ancient marijuana stash is now housed at Turpan Museum in China.

I went to check out Nice & Smooth's show♪
The event was really fresh. Greg Nice rocked the spot and engulfed it with his contagious energy. His human beat box was so fresh. All their people were on stage chillen and dancing, and it totally reminded me the Hip Hop back in the day. DJ Jazzy Jay, Joeski Love, Positive K, Psyco (The Beatnuts), DJ Polo and more got on stage and gave us a good surprise〜♪

Happy Wedding
The 3rd day was the main event for this trip, Kandi & Owen's wedding〜♪
We took a boat to this island an hour away from the main land. The island was so nice, the water was super clear, which healed my sea sickness right away.
The ceremony was right on the beach. Many of their family and friends celebrated their new beginning as a married couple. After the dinner, fire was lit up and they held a party on the beach♪ It was one of the best weddings I have ever attended.

Coins To Cash
My wallet was as light as a feather... I was hungry.. and I thought about cashing in all the change I have collected for few years in some juice bottles. So I brought it to the store that has a cashing machine〜＄ All the Pennies, Nickles and Dimes added up to $274!!!!! It was way more than I had expected♪ It was a great surprise!! The Ghost
Late night trains run really slow and you usually have to wait forever, but you see the trash trains and worker trains more often. They often use Red Birds that retired in 2003. Most of them are at the bottom of the Hudson river or have been destroyed. It's really good to see those survived and are running although they're on some retirement duty...
I am wondering who's ghost is on the red bird. It seems like a nice size panel.

Killing Time
While I was killing time on the street the other night, I found something fun to kill my time with... my camera and a streetlight that was in front of me. So this is what I did... I set the shutter speed to 5 secs and pointed at the streetlight to try to write letters by moving my camera around. this is really fun, although I was getting a little bit frustrated. I need to practice more... you should try as well, it's fun〜♪

Nasty Nas
I went to check out NAS' show〜♪ The event was extremely unorganized and we had to wait forever for the show to start... When the event started, After Grandmaster Flash warmed up the crowd Buck Shot performed Black Moon classics. New generations, Spank Roc & Amanda Blank were getting good response from the crowd. Jamal Woolard who is in the movie NOTORIOUS as Biggie Small, did a Biggie Small tribute. And Smoothe Da Hustler got on the mic as well. After a long pause, N.E.R.D showed up and all the ladies went crazy.. Actually I liked their show. Dizzee Rascal from UK joined them for a song. He was fresh, although I wish he did more songs... And at last, NAS came on the stage past 1am.. But his show was fresh! His wife joined the set as well. I am glad I stayed and waited all night for them to show.

I went to check out VH1's Hip Hop Honor the other night, which I think aired last night. Anyway this year's Nominees were Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Naughty By Nature, Slick Rick, Too $hort♪
Many artists appeared and celebrated Hip Hop that night. such as Biz Markie, Scarface,
Cee-Lo, Ghostface Killah, Big-Boi, the Roots, Wyclef Jean, Fat Joe, EPMD, Public Enemy, Busta Rhymes, Mod Def, Q-tip, Bun B, Estelle, MC Lyte, Kid Rock, Jim Jones, EVE, Mack 10, Prince Paul, etc..
Some of artists did bad, but over all it was a good show. I enjoyed it with an open bar〜♪

Arctic Aggressors
The newly formed 18th Aggressor Squadron has gotten arctic schemed aircraft in the first time in the USAF's history for its F-16 fighters〜♪
The white, black and gray F-16 are used as aggressor planes assigned to Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska for training exercises to include Red Flag Alaska. The first one was completed painting in Kusan U.S. Air Force Base in Korea on October, 2007.

At last, this weekend, I built the LEGO Bat Mobile "Tumbler" which was sitting on my desk unopened for the longest.... It looks really fresh〜♪ It's a pretty large piece (9"X 6"). You can open the cockpit, plus it has a firing launcher and flick-fire missiles. It comes with a Joker's Ice cream truck.

By the London Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge, The big drills popped out from the ground on May, 21. Next day an extraordinary optical device called a Telectroscope appeared on the sites that is connecting from London to New York through the tunnel. Brooklyn Nets
Brooklyn's finest Junior's, is known for the cheesecakes, but I just had a burger and some fries. As for my burger patrol.. well... The food isn't my favorite but It has all of my respect. However this basketball jersey caught my eyes more than any food in the restaurant, BROOKLYN NETS!! I've seen it on the news before and I'm sure it's not the final design, but it's so cool!! They're supposed to come to Brooklyn in 2010. As everybody knows, Brooklyn Native Jay-Z is one of the team owners. I can feel it! People are going to go crazy for Brooklyn Nets! And they are gonna sell mad marchandices for SURE!!
チーズケーキで有名なDowntown BrooklynにあるJunior'sへバーガーパトロールだったんですが、ここの食べ物はどれも大味過ぎであんま好物ではなくやっぱり今回も駄目でした。。そんな中で食べ物以上に目に停まったのがBROOKLYN NETSのジャージー♪
2010年NetsがBrooklynに来る予定らしいのでかなり楽しみです♪ 地元BrooklynのJay-Zもオーナーの一人だし盛り上がっちゃうんだろうな〜、ジャージとか売れちゃうんだろうな〜、早く来ないかな〜♪

Mets Game
切符をもらったので急遽METSゲームを観にShea Stadiumへ、テニス以外でそっちの方行くのは始めてです。。到着した頃には五回を過ぎていて、しかも気付いたらかなり冷え込んできてあんまり楽しめませんでしたが、なんか野球場の雰囲気って好きかも。全身METSのちびっ子達を観ていたら小さい頃通い詰めていた西武球場を懐かしく想い出しました。ちなみに９回裏満塁の逆転チャンスを逃しMillwakee BrewersにMETS 9-7で敗退。。。。
蕎麦屋
無性に自分で茹でたそば以外のそばが食べたくてAstor Placeにある蕎麦屋に帰宅途中緊急着陸♪今回はなんとなく鴨せいろ♪ここは普通においしく長野産のそばうどんが食せます。蕎麦湯も出してくれるしなんか落ち着きます。NYにはこんな感じの普通な日本食屋もっと欲しいですね。でもやっぱ更科堀井とかのデラ旨いの恋しいです。。

一風堂
またまた一風堂へ。今回は白丸を試してみました。おいしかったけど自分は赤丸派かな。
あとここの豚料理は結構好きです♪ 卵焼きも普通においしかったです。
Bon Bon Chicken
フライドチキンのデラうまいBon Bon Chicken、久々にCity Hall付近に行ったのでついでに軽くチキンカツサンドを食♪ 微妙に辛くてなかなかおいしいです。なんか日本のパン屋のカツサンドを想い出す味です。でもパンが分厚すぎる気が。。

日曜の夜は家の近所にあるFrank White でムロさんの廻すパーティーに珍入♪
ブルックリンでムロさんとツィギーさんのタッグを観れるなんてかなりうれしすぎのサプライズのマイクロフォンペ〜ジャ〜♪ 今週末は色々な人にも再会でき何か日本にいるみたいで楽しかった♪

1st Saturday @ Brooklyn Museum
今月のBrooklyn Museum の1st Saturday は村上隆の個展オープニングにちなんでかかなり日本してました。宇宙戦艦ヤマトを館内の映画館でキャッチ♪ そのあと一階に下りるとパーティーは既に始まっており、ムロさんが廻してました♪ キャプテンカークにも珍遇♪ 写真を全然撮らなかったのでMurotimate blogから代用させて頂こうと思って観てみると。。えっ！ツィギーさんフリースタイル？！見事に見逃してしまったようでかなり残念。。。
村上隆個展は日を改め空いてきてから観にこようかなあと思います。

一風堂
来週オープンする一風堂の試食会に誘ってもらったので仕事の後ラーメン食べに緊急着陸♪
ラーメン屋っていうよりは居酒屋みたいな広くこじゃれた店内。まずは豚しゃぶサラダと大根と豚角煮をつついたんですが、かなり好きな感じ♪ そしてラーメンは赤丸を♪ かなり満喫♪
次は今回食べなかった物を試したいです。

Cidade dos Homens
久々に映画館に観に行ってみました。ブラジル映画のCidade dos Homens(City of Men).
題からして予想がつくかとは思いますがFernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardner) がプロデューサーです。 ブラジルはリオデジャネイロのスラム喰らいます。。いつか行きたいですブラジル。。
ブラジルではテレビシリーズも大人気らしいです。みてみたいです。
