旧ルート６６沿いセルグマンとキングマンの中間あたりにある洞窟Grand Canyon Cavern。６５億年前に出来たこの洞窟は地下67メートルにあって幅６０メートル長さ１２０メートル高さ２０メートル。米国で一番でかい乾燥した洞窟らしいです。1962年のキューバ危機の際この洞窟をシェルターとして仕様出来るよう運び込まれた水や備品は当時のまま。
About half way through from Seligman to Kingman, you'll see the sign of Caverns Inn. The Grand Canyon Cavern is located in that area. It is 220 feet below ground, in a cavern that took 65 million years to form, in a room that is 200 feet wide, 400 feet long with a 70 foot ceiling. It's the largest dry cavern in the United States. They considered using the caverns as the bomb shelter during the Cuban missile crisis and the supplies are still
sitting there.
